Who Is Megan Moroney’s Song ‘Wish I Didn’t’ About? Riley Green Fan Theories Explained
Megan Moroney’s new song “Wish I Didn’t” has her engaging in combat with Dylan Efron for the music video — but who is the high-energy tune really about?
The track, released on Friday, January 16, starts off with Moroney’s signature drawl. She’s offering a warning to a potential lover who appears to be a huge red flag, acknowledging that she’s “hell hath no fury” when she’s scorned.
“You’ve got a hell of a reputation / So here I am patiently waiting / For that other shoe, or should I say boot? To drop,” the lyrics read. “I’ve heard all of the horror stories / Your graveyard of girls before me.”
As the song continues, Moroney tells her potential new man that he better not make her regret catching feelings.
“Don’t make me wish I didn’t / Get dressed up, let you take me out / Wreck your bed, make you all I’m talking about,” she sings in the chorus. “Consider this your warning, you’ve got one shot to listen / I think I’m falling for you, don’t make me wish I didn’t.”
Friday’s drop comes just ahead of the February 20 release of Moroney’s third album, Cloud 9. Her previously released songs “6 Months Later” and “Beautiful Things” will also be released on the record.
“Similar to the first two albums, it’s all written about honest, personal experiences, but these songs were written by the strongest, most confident version of myself I’ve ever been,” Moroney said in a statement about the new album. “My feet feel firmly planted in my artistry and it was fun to play around sonically, while still sticking to my roots of what my fans and I love.”

Is Megan Moroney’s ‘Wish I Didn’t’ About Dylan Efron?
No, Efron only appears in the music video. The visual, which was released on Friday, shows the two in what appears to be a rather tumultuous relationship. Inspired by Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Moroney and Efron come to an understanding at the end of the video after a pretty iconic fight sequence.
Is Megan Moroney’s ‘Wish I Didn’t’ About Riley Green?
That’s what the fans think. Since Moroney teased the song on Instagram earlier this month, fans have been theorizing that the tune could be written about fellow country star Green.
Some social media users have pointed to the “or should I say boot” line in the song’s first verse, since Green wears cowboy boots. Others pointed out that Moroney sings “make it rain” in the song, which could be a reference to Green’s 2024 tune of the same name.
While Moroney and Green never confirmed any dating rumors, they were linked in 2024 after they appeared to be posting social media content from the same vacation. At the time, Green apparently shared a photo wearing sunglasses and a blonde woman — who looked like Moroney — could been seen in his reflection. The photo has since been deleted.
Who Is Megan Moroney’s ‘Wish I Didn’t’ About?
Moroney hasn’t offered much in terms of an explanation — and she definitely hasn’t said names. However, she did hint that one song on the upcoming Cloud 9 record will reveal all.
“I’m pretty consistently vulnerable, but there’s one song, ‘Who Hurt You?’ that I’m really excited for,” the singer said in a TikTok video shared earlier this month. “Bar for bar, didn’t lie, said everything so that I don’t have to answer interview questions about the situation.”
