Could it be “showtime” again for Beetlejuice?

The 1988 original is a creepy comedy classic, and its supernatural sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was also a hit at the box office, grossing more than $400 million worldwide.

There was a 36-year wait since the first Beetlejuice movie, but the highly anticipated follow-up proved to be a horror success — one that is experiencing a new afterlife now that it’s streaming on Netflix.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, reunited stars of the original film, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. It also added some fresh faces to the frightening fun, like Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.

At the end of the 2024 movie, Lydia (Ryder) and her daughter, Astrid (Ortega), survived another adventure with Beetlejuice, but will they ever truly be rid of the “ghost with the most?”

Like the Neitherworld’s Soul Train, a third Beetlejuice movie is already rolling along. Here’s everything we know so far about Beetlejuice 3.

Will there be a Beetlejuice 3?

There are ongoing talks about making a Beetlejuice 3, according to Warner Bros. CEO Mike De Luca.

In an April 2025 interview with Deadline, he revealed that development for Beetlejuice 3 would begin “imminently” and mentioned that negotiations were still in the works.

“The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently,” De Luca said when asked about an update on another Beetlejuice.

Is Tim Burton directing Beetlejuice 3?

Tim Burton is not currently attached to direct Beetlejuice 3.

There were nearly 40 years between the first two Beetlejuice movies, and while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the Big Fish director reasoned that another extended wait would probably prevent him from helming a third movie.

“Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100. So maybe. I doubt it,” he quipped to the publication in August 2024.

In an interview with /Film, Burton explained that he returned for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because, “This is one where it was something that caught my thing. Now, would something else hit? I don’t know.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice producer Tommy Harper seemed a little more optimistic. “I think with Tim’s love for the title and the characters, the door is open, but we’ll see what happens next,” he told Deadline in September 2024.

It is unknown if Burton will be back for a third Beetlejuice, but he is returning to Nevermore Academy. Burton is directing episodes of Wednesday season 2, premiering Aug. 6. on Netflix.

Which cast members are returning for Beetlejuice 3?

Since Beetlejuice 3 has yet to be officially announced, there has been no word about cast members signing on, but they have expressed interest in returning to the Neitherworld.

In October 2024, E! News asked Keaton about the possibility of slipping on Beetlejuice’s striped suit again. “Oh man, I’d do it every year. Yeah,” he replied.

Ortega, who played Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Ryder), in the sequel, said it “would be fun” to do another Beetlejuice.

“One of the special things about this movie, it’s so original and so absurd and feels like such a fever dream,” Ortega explained in an interview with Fandango. “I think there’s so much originality that can still be found in that world, and so many new ideas.”

“I think it’s a very flexible environment, but who knows? We’ll see,” she added.

The original Beetlejuice movie isn’t available to stream, but fans can rent or purchase it on a few platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play Store and Fandango at Home.
