- Kravitz didn’t realize Butler starred on the Sex and the City prequel series, The Carrie Diaries
- The actors are starring together in the film Caught Stealing, now in theaters
Zoë Kravitz doesn’t hold back — no matter how awkward the truth may be.
The actress and filmmaker, 36, accidentally shaded her Caught Stealing costar Austin Butler during Vanity Fair‘s lie detector test when asked about one of her favorite shows.
“In your first lie detector test, you proved that you’re a huge fan of Sex and the City,” Butler said in the clip, released Thursday, Aug. 28. “Be honest, which was a better spinoff: The Carrie Diaries or And Just Like That…?”
Without missing a beat, Kravitz replied, “Neither.”
The Elvis actor maintains his composure and eye contact with his costar, urging her to “tell me more.”
“Leave that show alone,” she said, passionately. “Everybody, just stop.”
Butler then throws two pieces of paper away. Kravitz asked what those were, and he replied that they were photos of himself.
“Oh, no. Are you on that show?” she asks him, with Butler revealing he was on The Carrie Diaries. “Okay, sorry. Didn’t know that.”
It’s at this time that the person administering the lie detector test shared that Kravitz was being 100% “truthful” with her answers.
Butler starred on The Carrie Diaries, a prequel series to Sex and the City.
He played Sebastian Kydd, the love interest of young Carrie Bradshaw, played by AnnaSophia Robb, at Castlebury High School in Connecticut. Sarah Jessica Parker, of course, originated the role of Carrie.
The show ran for two seasons on The CW from 2013 to 2014 and also starred Ellen Wong, Katie Findlay, Brendan Dooling, Chloe Bridges and Stefania LaVie Owen.
Lindsey Gort joined the show in its second season as the younger version of Samantha Jones, the role made famous by Kim Cattrall.
Kravitz also gave her honest opinion on the final season of And Just Like That… without holding back.
“Is it fair to say you’re relieved that And Just Like That… is coming to an end?” Butler asked her in the lie detector test.
Kravitz admitted she had “mixed feelings” about the Sex and the City revival series ending.
Butler then asked her if she had a favorite plotline for this season, allowing her to let loose.
“Favorite is a word I don’t think I can use for that show,” Kravitz explained. “There are some plotlines that confused me more than others. There were plotlines that made me more upset than others.”
When Butler asked for an example, she pointed to the episode that saw Aiden Shaw (John Corbett) break one of Carrie’s windows and spend the whole episode replacing the glass.
“I liked Aiden,” Butler said, to which Kravitz replied, “You don’t anymore.”
Butler and Kravitz are teaming up on the big screen in their new film Caught Stealing.
Caught Stealing follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a New York City dive bar bartender who gets himself and his girlfriend, Yvonne (Kravitz), caught up in the criminal underbelly of the city after agreeing to take care of his punk-rock neighbor Russ’ (Matt Smith) cat.
The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky, with a screenplay by Charlie Huston and based on Huston’s book of the same name.
