12 Freakier Friday Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed (From a Parent Trap Reunion to a Britney Spears Callback!)

NEED TO KNOW
- Freakier Friday is the sequel to the 2003 remake, Freaky Friday, starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis
- The new movie features Easter eggs and multiple callbacks to the first film, including a nod to Britney Spears
- Elaine Hendrix, Lohan’s Parent Trap costar, also makes a cameo in Freakier Friday
Put some Pink Slip on because Freakier Friday has hit theaters.
The highly anticipated sequel reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, stars of the 2003 Freaky Friday remake, as they return to play mother and daughter, Tess and Anna.
In March 2024, Lohan told PEOPLE she was “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it. Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”
Freaky Friday depicted the duo magically trading places, but the new sequel quadruples the chaos, when Anna and Tess switch bodies with Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters), and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons).
As in the first film, hilarious hijinks ensue as another wedding day looms. The foursome is desperate to return to their original bodies while learning some valuable life lessons along the way.
The sequel is a fun feast for fans, and in addition to a Pink Slip reunion, it features multiple nods and callbacks to Freaky Friday. Here’s a list of Easter eggs you might have missed in Freakier Friday.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Freakier Friday!
“Make good choices!”
Tess’ overbearing parenting style might have annoyed Anna when she was younger, but it rubbed off on her.
When Anna drops her rebellious surfer daughter, Harper, at school, she tells her to “Make good choices!” just as Tess used to say to her.
Harper and Lily attend Sunset Ridge High School
“Go Dolpins!” In Freakier Friday, Harper and Lily attend Sunset Ridge High, the same school Anna went to.
The school scenes in 2003’s Freaky Friday were filmed at Palisades Charter High School, a popular shooting location that was used in other classic movies like Grease and Carrie.
Unfortunately, in January 2025, the school, located in the Pacific Palisades, burned down in the Los Angeles wildfires.
Anna Coleman lives in a familiar house
In Freakier Friday, Tess still lives in the same house as in the 2003 film.
“The movie is a love letter to Los Angeles and the original movie was a love to Los Angeles,” Curtis told Deadline in July 2025. “We shot in the original house and we shot all over the city of Los Angeles.”
Sadly, like the Palisades Charter High School, the house didn’t survive the L.A. wildfires.
“The film is such an homage to California after the fires, because we shot a lot in the Palisades and in Malibu,” Lohan told Chloe Fineman in a May 2025 interview for Elle. “Even the house — the original Freaky Friday house — unfortunately, is gone. So I think it’ll be a really nice love letter.”
Pei-Pei and her mom make a cameo
Pei-Pei (Rosalind Chao), the owner of the Chinese restaurant in Freaky Friday, and her nosy mother, Grandma Chiang, (Lucille Soong) make cameos in the sequel. In the original, Grandma Chiang supplies the magical body-switching fortune cookies, but this time around the mother and daughter are just fun-loving guests at Anna’s bachelorette party and wedding.
Freakier Friday director Nisha Ganatra was conscious of the Asian stereotypes portrayed in the first movie, and looked to rectify the representation that didn’t age particularly well.
“We owed audiences to make it right on this one,” she told Entertainment Weekly when describing the decision to invite Chao and Soong back for the sequel.
Other Coleman family members return
Not only are Anna and Tess back, but so are other members of their family. Mark Harmon reprises his role as Tess’ husband, Ryan, and Ryan Malgarini makes a cameo as Anna’s younger brother, Harry.
One member of the Coleman clan who didn’t return was Harold Gould, who played Grandpa in the first movie. The actor died in 2010.
Mr. Bates is still teaching
Elton Bates (Stephen Tobolowsky), the sadistic teacher who made school a nightmare for Anna, is still an evil educator. Now he is taking out his grievances on a new generation of Colemans, as he torments Harper and her classmates.
Not only does Mr. Bates look familiar, but so do his classroom decorations. The “Definition of Cheating” poster he has hanging on his wall in Freakier Friday is almost identical to the one in the detention office in Freaky Friday.
There’s a Parent Trap reunion
Freakier Friday also nods to other beloved titles from Lohan’s filmography, like The Parent Trap.
Elaine Hendrix, who played Meredith Blake in the 1998 movie, reunited for a scene with Lohan in Freakier Friday. Hendrix briefly appears as a stylist named Blake Kale. Meredith Blake, Blake Kale, coincidence?
While talking about filming with Lohan, Hendrix told Entertainment Weekly, “We spent a lot of time together on set, hanging out, reminiscing, and catching up. Now, we’re better about staying in touch with one another.”
“I’m so happy for her and where she is in her life,” she added. “It’s nice, in these new chapters of our lives, to be in contact.”
Pink Slip gets back together
Anna has left Pink Slip in the years since the events in Freaky Friday, but she briefly steps back into the spotlight in the sequel.
These days, Anna works in the music industry and remains close to her former bandmates Maddie (Christina Vidal Mitchell) and Peg (Haley Hudson). They show up for her bachelorette party and then play a gig at The Wiltern in L.A. at the end of the movie.
At the concert, Anna accompanies them onstage to perform a new song, “Baby,” which she wrote for her daughter, who also joins her. Of course, the band couldn’t leave without treating the audience to their classic track, “Take Me Away.”
Jake finds himself a Tess look-alike
All these years later, Jake (Chad Michael Murray) still has a crush on Tess, and it appears he has a type. At Anna’s wedding at the end of the movie, Jake introduces Tess to his new girlfriend, who looks strikingly similar to Tess, since she’s wearing the same dress and hairstyle Curtis rocked in the 2003 movie.
Anna and Eric’s wedding date is Oct. 3
In Freakier Friday, Anna’s wedding day is Oct. 3, which any cool mom knows is Mean Girls Day.
In an interview with Collider, Lohan revealed that the date was just a coincidence. “I genuinely don’t think anyone realized it,” said the actress, who played Cady Heron in the 2004 comedy.
“Until it was printed on the [wedding invitation] cards, the day of,” Lohan explained. “Because it was one of the first days shooting and I was like, ‘Does anyone realize this is October 3rd? That’s Mean Girls Day.’”
“I was like, ‘Let’s leave it, it’s an Easter egg,’” she recalled. “And Nisha was like, ‘We’re not doing Easter eggs.’ I’m like, ‘Well, you did!’”
The Beaches cover “Ultimate”
“Take Me Away” isn’t the only song from the Freaky Friday soundtrack that can be heard in the sequel. “Ultimate,” the song Pink Slip performs at Tess’ wedding at the end of Freaky Friday, plays during the Freakier Friday end credits.
The new version of “Ultimate” is performed by the all-female Canadian rock band, The Beaches.
Britney Spears’ 2003 record, In the Zone, makes an appearance
Another millennial icon, Britney Spears, makes an appearance in Freakier Friday — well, kind of.
When Anna and Tess visit Jake’s record shop, Tess hides behind various records, one of them being Spears’ album, In the Zone, which was released in 2003, the same year as Freaky Friday.
Spears’ music also played a part in the first movie. After bonding over their love for “Baby One More Time,” Jake showed up at Tess’ house, attempting to serenade her by belting the pop song outside.
“We shot it in a neighborhood where everyone was already asleep. I felt so bad for them,” Murray told Vulture in August 2023, when asked about the scene. “They were none too pleased with our lights and me terribly belting Britney Spears at all hours of the night.”
