  • Amanda Seyfried is feeling sequel “fatigue,” she told Rachel Brosnahan in a recent interview
  • “I want original content. I think it’s really scary and brave to do it. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating,” she said
  • But Seyfried would still “do Mamma Mia! 3 in a heartbeat,” and is currently working on a Jennifer’s Body sequel

Amanda Seyfried is speaking her mind.

During a recent interview, Seyfried, 39, admitted that recently, she’s been feeling some sequel fatigue. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the actress — who famously starred in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and is currently working on a follow-up to Jennifer’s Body — is anti-sequel altogether, she said.

While chatting with Rachel Brosnahan for an Interview Magazine story published Monday, June 16, the stars discussed the upcoming summer blockbuster lineup of Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman and Fantastic Four — all of which are either sequels or reboots of an existing franchise.

After Brosnahan, 34, asked Seyfried what this summer’s version of Barbenheimer would be, given the trio of movies (“Supertastic Park?”), the Mamma Mia star replied, “It’s Fantastic Super-park. It’s Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don’t know! I will say, there’s a little bit of fatigue with sequels.”

“I want original content,” Seyfried continued. “I think it’s really scary and brave to do it. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating.”

But, she said, there are personal exceptions to this belief — namely, another installment in her widely beloved ABBA jukebox musical franchise.

“Then again,” Seyfried added, “I’d do Mamma Mia! 3 in a heartbeat.”

And there’s another notable exception to her sequel fatigue: Jennifer’s Body. The actress is currently working on — and actively trying to recruit for — a sequel to the 2009 cult classic, she previously revealed.

Diablo Cody, who wrote the horror comedy, first teased a reboot, telling PEOPLE in early 2024 that she hopes a follow-up to the Megan Fox-led film “will happen” soon.

“I think something will happen, I do. And I’m excited about it,” she said at the time. “But it’s one of those things where you’re constantly having to push. There’s a lot of content out there right now and a lot of people trying to remake existing IP.”

Seyfried teased the project last year. “Everybody says it’s gonna happen,” she said while appearing on ABC News Live, adding that at that point, she hadn’t yet “seen a script.”

But it appears that something more substantial is now in the works, as the actress attempted to recruit a star from the original film, Adam Brody, during another recent chat.

While reuniting for an “Actors on Actors” conversation for Variety published earlier this month, the former costars discussed the forthcoming sequel, and Seyfried asked Brody, 45, if he would return along with her.

“We’re making another one … Are you gonna do it?” the actress asked, as the Nobody Wants This star replied, “I certainly wasn’t contacted…” Plus, Brody added, “I died, so…”

“But so did Megan, and I’m not doing it without her,” Seyfried fired back. Brody then admitted that there are “supernatural elements at play,” before continuing, “So there’s any reason, I have to say, as much as I would want to, feels very tangential to—”

But Seyfried cut him off to offer: “Not if you played the devil.”

“That,” she added, “would be amazing.”
