Sydney Sweeney brushes off American Eagle ad backlash on karaoke outing with ‘Euphoria’ co-stars

Singing the backlash away.
Sydney Sweeney brushed off the backlash she’s received for her American Eagle ad with a karaoke outing with her “Euphoria” co-stars.
The “Anyone But You” actress was seen singing “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes with Hunter Schafer and Maude Apatow at The GasLite in Santa Monica, Calif., Saturday night, per videos shared online.
Schafer, 26, appeared casual for the outing, wearing jeans and a tank top, while Sweeney and Apatow, both 27, opted for dresses.
The three were later seen chatting with their castmate Jacob Elordi at a table inside the karaoke bar.
The conversation between the foursome seemed intense, as the “This Is 40” actress covered her face with her hands at one point.
Sweeney’s outing with her co-stars comes as she faces controversy over her American Eagle campaign and her political views.
Last week, the clothing brand and the Emmy nominee were accused of promoting “Nazi propaganda” by using a play on words between “genes” and “jeans.”
In one of the ads, Sweeney, who has blue eyes and blond hair, talked about how genes that are passed from parent to offspring often determine traits such as “hair color, personality and even eye color.”
She then ended the video by looking at the camera and saying, “My jeans are blue.”
After receiving backlash from fans and being mocked by celebrities such as Doja Cat and Lizzo, American Eagle released a statement, saying, “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
Additionally, over the weekend, public voter records viewed by The Post revealed that Sweeney has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County since June 2024.
In 2022, the “Immaculate” star was slammed for throwing a MAGA-themed 60th birthday party for her mother, which included people wearing red “Make Sixty Great Again” caps and “Blue Lives Matter” shirts.
In response, Sweeney tweeted at the time that the “innocent celebration” was “turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention.”
“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!” she added.
Despite the backlash, Sweeney appeared unbothered as she hit the red carpet for the “Americana” premiere in LA on Sunday.
