  • The Apple TV+ show released its season 2 finale on August 6, which featured multiple cliffhangers
  • The historical drama’s cast has spoken about what they hope to see in season 3

The Buccaneers is based on an unfinished Edith Wharton novel, so will the Apple TV+ series suffer the same fate? That’s what viewers are wondering after the suspenseful season 2 finale.

The energetic period piece follows five young and wealthy American women in the 1870s, who travel to London searching for husbands. Upon their arrival in England, the rebellious friends enter high society, “setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash,” per the official show description.

Season 2 — which concluded on August 6 — was filled with more romance for the women and shocking twists, including an unexpected death.

When discussing the most recent season, Kristine Frøseth, who plays Nan St. George, told PEOPLE in June 2025, “One of the things I was most excited about was to unpack all the family drama. There’s so much that happens in season 2.”

“It was really interesting to see where the friendships go,” she added. “There’s more tension and complications between the girls than season 1 — and some of that was interesting to unpack as well.”

Now that The Buccaneers season 2 has ended, will there be a season 3? Here’s everything to know about the potential next chapter of the Apple TV+ series.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Buccaneers season 2!

Is The Buccaneers renewed for season 3?

No, Apple TV+ has not yet announced if The Buccaneers will get a third season.

In December 2023, when season 2 was confirmed, series creator Katherine Jakeways said, “We know season one left audiences desperate to know what’s next for our Buccaneers, so I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to explore the further adventures of this smart, joyful, messy sisterhood.”

What has The Buccaneers cast and creator said about a potential season 3?

The second season ended with a pregnant Nan fleeing from her life, including her husband, Theo (Guy Remmers), Duke of Tintagel, who announced he was abdicating the throne.

While discussing Nan’s decision, Frøseth told Today that’s she’s “very excited to see where” her character is “going to go and how she’s going to raise this child. Is she going to go back? I really hope she stays by herself.”

“I was really proud of her when she made that decision,” she continued. “It’s a really courageous decision to leave things behind … It’s just time to get away.”

As for the creative team, in a June 2025 interview with Tech Radar, when asked about a third season, Jakeways said, “In terms of season 3 we’re just concentrating on season 2 at the moment!”

“There’s lots of excitement about where the characters could go and being in that world,” she teased.

When will The Buccaneers season 3 premiere?

A premiere date for season 3 of The Buccaneers is unknown, since the series has yet to be renewed.

The first season ended on Dec. 13, 2023, and five days later, on December 18, Apple announced that the series would be back for another installment. The eight-episode second season premiered on June 18 and concluded on August 6.

How did The Buccaneers season 2 end?

The second season finale of The Buccaneers was filled with some surprising announcements.

Nan (Frøseth), who married Theo (Remmers), the Duke of Tintagel, at the end of season 1, planned to share her pregnancy at the annual masquerade ball.

Before she could share the news, though, Theo declared he was renouncing his title so he could divorce his wife and be with Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), the woman he fell in love with, but didn’t publicly name.

Nan then left the ball, and Lizzy chased after her. Once they were face-to-face, Nan told Lizzy she was pregnant with Theo’s baby. The episode ended with Nan’s friends searching for her as she ran down the beach, away from the castle, with a smile on her face.
