Calvin Harris is mourning the loss of his chicken, Smokey.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Grammy winner, 41, announced that his pet rooster was killed. “RIP Smokey we love you 😞,” his Instagram Stories announcement began.

“Raised this lad from a chick to a majestic cockerel,” he revealed. He then noted that Smokey’s untimely death was because he was “murdered by the idiot neighbours grimey dogs.”

Harris added that he is “absolutely gutted” by the loss. His Instagram Stories included a photo of him holding the rooster up for a photo, which was accompanied by Smokey Robinson’s “My Love for You.”

Just over a year ago, the musician posted a separate Instagram video of his newborn chicks, asking for advice on how to keep them hydrated.

“Tried some watermelon on the little fellas this morning and it went down a treat as expected. What keeps your newborn baby chicks hydrated? Let me know in the comments !”

Harris isn’t the only celebrity to have chickens as pets, or recently mourn the loss of a farm animal pet. In April 2018, Jennifer Garner said goodbye to her pet chicken, Regina George, after the bird, whom she kept on a leash, died of natural causes.

In July 2023, Zayn Malik said he has six chickens, but he was avoiding giving his feathered friends names after a heartbreaking loss when one of his chickens died in his arms.

Meanwhile, in December 2023, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham shared a glimpse of their Christmas after the fashion designer gifted him several clucking chickens.

A week before Harris revealed the death of Smokey, he and his wife Vick Hope announced that they had welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Micah, on July 20.

The musician announced the exciting news on Instagram with a series of sweet snaps on Aug. 4.

In the first photo of Harris’ Instagram carousel, he is seen holding his little boy on his arm and smiling as he sits on an outdoor couch in the sun. He also included a photo of himself and his wife meeting their little one for the first time in an at-home water birth.

“20th of July our boy arrived. Micah is here!” Harris wrote in his caption. “My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah ❤️❤️❤️.”
