Kelly Stafford’s Most Honest Quotes About the Challenges of Motherhood

Kelly Stafford has never been one to shy away from discussing the realities of being a modern-day mother of four.
Kelly and her husband, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, share four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, Hunter and Tyler, who were born in 2017, 2018 and 2020, respectively.
Kelly frequently discusses the trials and tribulations of parenting on her podcast, “The Morning After,” where she admits the life of a football WAG isn’t as glamorous or uncomplicated as one might think.

Kelly Stafford Didn’t ‘Recognize’ 1 of Her Daughters
Kelly admitted to having a difficult time with one of her girls in particular after a string of behavioral issues.
“One of my daughters I have been very, very much struggling with,” Kelly said on her podcast in August 2025. “Matthew as well. She has become a little girl that I don’t recognize.”
Kelly said her daughter told one of her sisters that she looked “gross” in her outfit before a cookout. An emotional Kelly explained she had “tried everything” when it came to her daughter’s behavior.
“Nothing is working,” Kelly said. “I’m exhausted. And I told her, ‘It’s not fair to your sisters that all of my energy right now is going to you every day because you are acting up. You are causing issues. I don’t know if it’s for attention. Tell me, do you need more from me?’”
Kelly revealed that her daughter began to cry and said, “I don’t know why I’m so bad.”
She Sometimes Needs a Little Help
Kelly revealed she sometimes takes a weed gummy when the pressures of parenting become a bit too much to handle.
“Gummies are great,” Kelly said on her podcast in June 2025. “Sometimes I feel like gummies make me a better parent. They calm me down.”
Kelly added, “I feel a little guilty saying it and it’s not like I do it every night. Sometimes I’m like, ‘S***, it’s been a long day. I don’t want to rip my hair out or their hair out, so I’m going to just top it off with a little gummy.’”
She Admits to ‘Losing Patience’ With Daughter Tyler
Kelly singled out her youngest daughter, Tyler, explaining that her incessant desire for attention can be exhausting.
“I need to remember she’s my baby and she’s still only 4 years old,” Kelly said on her podcast in June 2025. “I just have to be better with her. And a lot more patience. Because Matthew and I are both losing patience with that one.”
Kelly added, “She just doesn’t shut up.”
In particular, Kelly said Tyler’s impulse to hear “Twinkle Twinkle Little Little Star” had become draining.
“I tell myself she’s not going to ask forever,” Kelly said. “But I’m f***ing tired. It makes me so sad to say this, but even the extra 15 minutes with her, or 15 seconds, feels long. Which is a horrendous thing to say.”
She added, “I feel like a horrendous mother because she will ask me to do one simple thing before putting her down. I will do it now once every four times.”
She Abruptly Canceled Her Daughters’ Birthday Party
After her twins, Sawyer and Chandler, exhibited behavior that was not to her liking, Kelly decided to cancel their 8th birthday party.
“This has been an ongoing thing for the last couple of months where the attitudes have come into play,” Kelly said on her podcast in March 2025. “I’m struggling to parent it. I am an enforcer. I am probably the mean parent. Matthew has now turned also. We tried the ‘good cop, bad cop’ situation that we always are. Clearly it’s not working because nothing has changed.”
She added, “We told them, ‘Birthday party is off because we cannot honestly celebrate you guys right now just because of the way you’re behaving. We love you, but I don’t think you should have a celebration.’ That was really how we both felt, Matthew and I.”
Shortly after pulling the plug on the party, however, Kelly reversed course.
In photos shared via Instagram, Kelly and Matthew could be seen celebrating their twins at a Paris-themed birthday party.
“We have eight-year-olds ❤️,” Kelly wrote via Instagram. “Love watching each of them grow individually while holding tight to their bond. It’s truly so special.”
She Worries About Her Daughters and Social Media
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in February 2025, Kelly said she was trying to figure out what to allow her daughters to see online.
“When it comes to social media, I’ve always told myself the minute they know what Instagram is, is the minute I have to figure something out,” she said.
Kelly admitted it will also be a turning point for her, as she considers keeping more of their personal lives private.
“In the near future, there is going to be a discussion about whether or not sharing them on social media is going to be happening,” she said. “At the end of the day, we want them to be able to control what’s out there. They’re getting to an age now where their friends have Instagrams and they’re following me. That is something I really have to consider moving forward.”
