Sparks are flying between Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell in their fantastical new romance.
In a 6-minute sneak peek from A Big Bold Beautiful Journey shared exclusively with PEOPLE, the pair are in adventure mode, journeying via a time-traveling doorway. Farrell, 49, also delights with a demonstration of his song-and-dance skills in the scene.
Director Kogonada and writer Seth Reiss’ romance follows Robbie’s Sarah and Farrell’s David as they meet at a wedding and proceed to magically re-live “important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present — and possibly getting a chance to alter their futures,” per a synopsis.
In the clip, Robbie, 35, as Sarah encourages — and lightly teases — her companion amid his return to high school memories.
David, though appearing like an adult, greets his former classmates, teacher and crush in bewilderment, eventually taking the stage as the lead in the school’s production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. (Farrell nails the choreography like a pro.)
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey also stars Kevin Kline, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Billy Magnussen and Hamish Linklater.
Farrell, 49, previously told PEOPLE about the film, describing it as a “heart opener” that’s “not afraid to look at some of the more painful aspects of life and experiences that we all share, of love and loss.”
Robbie praised Kogonada as “a true artist,” calling the project “surreal and incredibly romantic. I think audiences will have a magical experience watching it.”
Farrell told Entertainment Weekly that it was reading the high school musical scene in Reiss’ script that made him want to join A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Filming the number “was mortifying,” the Irish actor said alongside Robbie. “I was so uncomfortable. But it was fun as well, I’m not going to lie.”
“I was very excited the day we shot this, because I get to just sit in the audience and actually watch Colin do a high school musical,” added Robbie. “It was amazing. He was so good.”

Farrell will stars this fall in The Ballad of a Small Player (in theaters Oct. 15) and, following his Emmy-nominated turn in The Penguin, the planned sequel to the 2022 Robert Pattinson-starring The Batman.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, from Sony Pictures, is in theaters Sept. 19.
