Meghan Markle reveals fate of Netflix show after Season 2 flop

Meghan Markle announced there’s more “With Love, Meghan” on the way despite Season 2’s lackluster viewership performance.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared that fans can expect a “really good” holiday special to come in November at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, DC, on Tuesday.
However, she appeared to play coy about the possibility of another complete season with the streamer as she hinted that she’s exploring new formats for the show.
“So I think looking at that format — again, it’s a year of learns — so we’re able to say, ‘Eight episodes for two seasons — it’s a lot of work,” she told the crowd, per People.
“And having done ‘Suits’ for seven years, I remember what goes into a production. I also recognize how much people want content in different sizes. Part of what we’re testing out now is, it’s amazing to sit and watch a show for 30 minutes, but how can I give you a recipe in two minutes? And where can I share that with you? And how that continues to grow As Ever,” she continued.
Markle’s show was one in a collection of projects that arrived as part of her and her husband, Prince Harry’s reported $100 million exclusive Netflix deal.
As we exclusively reported in June, Markle’s deal with Netflix has come to a close, but the royal isn’t done working with the streamer as she continues to expand her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
She and Harry have since entered into a first-look deal with Netflix, which Markle also showed her excitement about during Tuesday’s session titled, “Next Level Influence: A Conversation With Meghan, Duchess Of Sussex.”
“My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas’ deal, once that had come to its term, the extension of it — which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership — was now being in a first-look deal,” she told Fortune Editor-in-Chief and Chief Content Officer, Alyson Shontell.
“Which is also exciting because it gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else.”
The future of Markle’s show and her relationship with Netflix has been a topic of speculation for months, especially considering her business “mistakes” and Season 2’s premiere week flop.
Despite raking in 2.6 million viewers for Season 1 when it debuted in March 2025, the lifestyle series failed to crack Netflix’s Top 10 in its premiere week.
At the time, Forbes noted that the show had to have been watched by 500,000 fewer viewers than the first season in its first week.
In addition to its subpar ratings, “With Love” also scored negative reviews among UK critics who trashed the “painful” second installment calling it “tone deaf” and “so boring.”
At the same time, Markle insists that people actually “love” her show and claimed those who criticize it online are just “trying to pay their bills.”
“I think I knew who I was trying to meet,” she said on an August episode of “The Circuit with Emily Chang,” referring to the mixed reviews Season 1 received.
“And so if you know your audience, you know your demographic, well, they love the show, and my partners love the show, and that’s why we have a Season 2 and why we have more fun coming.”
