Hollywood icon Sally Kirkland dead at 84 after entering hospice care amid dementia battle
Sally Kirkland has died. She was 84.
The “Anna” actress died Tuesday at 1:50 a.m. PT, with her rep, Michael Greene, confirming the news to TMZ.
The news came just two days after her rep told us she had entered hospice care amid her battle with dementia.
“She continues to receive medical care at a private facility where family and friends joined her on Halloween for a birthday celebration,” Page Six was told.
In recent years, the Oscar nominee had been suffering from various health issues.
In 2024, she fractured four bones in her neck, right wrist and left hip. During her recovery, she “developed two separate life-threatening infections,” according to a GoFundMe.
Her insurance wouldn’t cover all of her mounting medical expenses and organizers of her fundraiser page explained her dire situation.
“It has been a challenging few months for Sally as her health continues to struggle,” Her GoFundMe page read. “She had a fall in the shower, when she was left unattended; injuring her ribs, foot, along with cuts and bruises.”
She was receiving full-time care at a specialized facility but needed help covering the fees.
“Sally is now receiving 24/7 care in a specialized facility, that is providing wonderful safety and care,” the message continued. “We are continuing to try raise money to cover the gaps between income and care costs. Thank you for all the love, support, and care for Sally.”
Last Friday, the organizers confirmed that she had entered hospice and thanked contributors for their “love and support.”
“Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally,” the comment stated.
Kirkland, who was once involved in Andy Warhol’s “Factory” scene, was known for her title role in the 1987 comedy-drama “Anna,” for which she earned a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award nomination.
The late actress starred in over 200 movies and films throughout her decades-long career, including projects like “Charlie’s Angels, “JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty.
