George and Amal Clooney obtain French citizenship after worrying about raising their kids in Hollywood
George and Amal Clooney were officially granted French citizenship after expressing concerns about their children growing up in Hollywood.
The couple and their 8-year-old twins Alexander and Ella’s new legal status was revealed in a French government journal on Saturday.
Reps for the family weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.
George, 64, and Amal, 47, purchased a $8.3 million farm in the South of France in 2021, per Hello!
The actor talked about raising their kids on a farm in an interview with Esquire published in October.
“We’re very lucky,” he said. “You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it.”
“But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know?” he continued. “They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
Clooney said he was “worried” about raising his kids in Los Angeles, given the culture of Hollywood.
“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he explained. “France — they kind of don’t give a s–t about fame.”
“I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi,” he added. “I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
Clooney continued to speak about loving living in France in a radio interview earlier this month.
“I love the French culture, your language, even if I’m still bad at it after 400 days of courses,” he joked, per the Guardian.
He noted that wanting his kids to have privacy and to not have to worry about paparazzi was extremely important for him and Amal.
“Here, they don’t take photos of kids,” he said. “There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us.”
In October, he shared that he’s in a “comfortable place” in his life right now.
“I like what I do for a living, I have great friends,” he told People. “I spend time with people that I love, and I’ve been able and lucky enough late in life to be able to spend time with my family.”
