Jenna Bush Hager reveals why she was banned from her daughter’s volleyball games
Jenna Bush Hager is getting benched — by her own kids.
The “Today With Jenna and Sheinelle” co-host admitted Friday that her 13-year-old daughter Mila has effectively banned her from volleyball games after one too many over-the-top moments on the sidelines.
“I got kicked out by my child,” Hager said, before clarifying, “Well, I didn’t get kicked out, like, removed immediately. I got put into a free zone.”
Bush, 44, said her enthusiasm crossed the line with Mila, her eldest child, during a recent match.
“The score was 6 to 7, and I go, ‘Six seven!’” she recalled. “And Mila looked at me like this…”
Hager mimicked her daughter’s icy glare, adding, “Afterwards, I was frozen out. I went to one volleyball game this year.”
She’s hoping for a comeback next season — with a lower profile.
“I think I’m gonna be unfrozen for next year,” she said. “I’m just not gonna try to be the center of attention.”
Mila isn’t the only one calling the shots. Hager revealed her youngest, 6-year-old Hal, has also had enough of her game-day energy.
“Now on the flag football field, Hal’s all like, ‘Don’t cheer. You’re too loud, Mom,’” she said.
Hager, who shares Mila, 10-year-old Poppy and Hal with husband Henry Hager, insists her sideline spirit comes naturally.
“My dad worked in baseball, so [I] went to like 70 games a year,” she said.
“I would cheer. I loved to cheer. I learned how to take score. I knew how to do everything, so I’m kind of a sports kid.”
Her father, former president George W. Bush, was part of the ownership group for the Texas Rangers from 1989 to 1998 before entering the White House in 2001, helping shape her early love of the game.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Hager had another family-related gripe — this time about her resemblance to her dad.
During a segment featuring her interviews with Bush, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Bill Clinton, co-host Sheinelle Jones pointed out the similarity between Hager and the former president.
“I know everybody says it, but dang,” Jones said.
Hager didn’t exactly embrace the comparison.
“I appreciate it,” she replied, before saying, “Sometimes that’s not a compliment.”
As the NBC production team laughed off-camera, Hager added, “I think my dad’s handsome, but when people say that, I’m like, ‘I look like a man?’”
