Why Demi Moore has no plans to cut her long hair
Demi Moore’s hair isn’t going anywhere.
Though the 63-year-old actress has experimented in the past with various styles, including her infamous “G.I. Jane” buzzcut, her waist-length locks have been with her since the turn of the millennium.
And Moore says not to expect a switch-up any time soon.
“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more thoughtful about how I care for [my hair.] Partnering with a brand that I already use felt natural,” Moore, who was named the new global ambassador for Kératase, told People Magazine.
She added, “It isn’t just about repair, it’s about care that creates longevity.”
Moore shared that when heading to the salon, she’s careful to leave with the same length with which she entered. “Just a dusting,” she tells the stylists, continuing, “I’m protective of the length, so it’s about health over inches.”
She mused, “It feels most like me … at the end of the day I love taking it down seeing my hair fall past my waist. It’s like coming home.”
As for that “G.I. Jane” shave? It “probably was the most illuminating experience and one that deepened my appreciation for my hair!,” she exclaimed.
Back in 2022, the actress proclaimed that she would be “hard-pressed” to cut her hair short again, even for a movie role. “I think now that I’m older … I don’t have anything to prove.”
“I’ve done everything to my hair. I’ve shaved it. I’ve dyed it. I’ve had a bob. When I’m not working, I try to do as little to it as possible. It’s stressful even having someone touch it,” she said at the time.
Though her length might remain, it’s the color that could begin to change.
After 2024’s “The Substance,” which explored the ideas of aging and the perception of beauty, she shared that she could “100 percent” see herself embracing gray hair in the future.
“I look at women who have that incredible gray, especially long, and I think it’s striking,” she added.
No matter the color, her love for length remains consistent. “I remember hearing, ‘Oh, you get to a certain age, and it’s not appropriate to have long hair,’” she said at the time. “It really should be more what feels comfortable on you. Part of it was I looked around and saw women of a certain age cutting their hair, almost neutralizing themselves, and it didn’t make sense for me.”
