Todd and Julie Chrisley mock their time in prison with controversial ‘Masked Singer’ appearance

Todd and Julie Chrisley were accused of mocking their time in jail with a controversial appearance on the “Masked Singer.”

During Wednesday night’s episode of the singing competition, the Croissants duo was revealed to be the formerly incarcerated couple. However, viewers were a lot more focused on their song and outfit choices.

Todd, 56, and Julie, 53, first hinted at their identities when they sang Elvis Presley’s song “Jailhouse Rock,” which talks about a “warden [throwing] a party in the county jail.”

They also wore black and white striped costumes, which are reminiscent of the 1820’s prison jumpsuit.

After revealing their identities in the most recent episode, many viewers of the show took to social media to criticize their appearance and their song choice.

“So two felons? Seriously?” one angry fan wrote in the comments section of the show’s Instagram, while another commented, “Well they should be in and [sic] prison instead of on stage.”

“Look they still like wearing stripes !!” another quipped, pointing out their outfits.

Despite the harsh criticism, Todd defended their decision to choose the Elvis Presley hit.

“Julie was like, ‘I’m not doing that.’ And I said, ‘Why? It’s not like the whole world doesn’t know. I don’t give a s—t, so let’s just do it. It’ll be fun,’” the real estate entrepreneur told Us Weekly.

“And so when we told that to the folks at ‘The Masked Singer,’ they were like, ‘Are you serious? You’ll do it? Because we so wanted you to do this.’ And I said, ‘Yes, that’s the one we want to do.’”

“I don’t want to make light of a very tragic situation, but listen, we survived it, and there are so many people that don’t,” he clarified.

Todd insisted that their performance was to show “the men that [he] left behind” in prison that “there is life after that season of their lives.”

“It was kind of like a snub to anyone who thought they were going to use [our past] to hang over our head,” he noted.

The “Chrisley Knows Best” alums have made their return to TV after being convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion in June 2022.

Though they stand by their innocence, Todd was sentenced to 12 years at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Fla., while Julie was sentenced to seven years at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

However, they managed to cut their time short in May 2025 when President Trump pardoned them in a controversial move.

At the time, the “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality” stars’ attorney told Page Six that a “deep injustice” was corrected when his clients were pardoned.

Their early release, though, garnered plenty of backlash, including from the women of “The View.”

“According to this administration, if you are a reality star with a lot of money, and a tax cheat, and you commit fraud, then that’s good,” Joy Behar said during a May episode.

“We’re going to give you a pardon,” she added. “But poor people on Medicaid or food stamps, according to this administration, those are the real moochers.”

Ana Navarro chimed in, claiming the move was “not ethical.”
