Jason Momoa forced to evacuate as powerful storm brings raging floodwaters to Hawaii
Jason Momoa and his family evacuated from their home in Oahu’s North Shore as a devastating storm hit the area.
The actor shared video on Instagram updating his fans on his current situation, noting that he and his family left the North Shore and that the power went out.
“We’re safe for now, but there’s a lot of people who weren’t, so, sending all our love,” he said.
“North Shore’s pretty gnarly right now, so just love, and hopefully everyone’s safe and getting out and get together and figure out how we help everyone…. Stay safe out there.”
Momoa has been sharing video of the destruction the storm has caused, including massive flooding, downed trees and more.
The actor also posted a video Saturday with his girlfriend, Adria Arjona, giving back to their community by organizing an event that gave meals to those affected by the storm.
“These past weeks have been heavy,” he wrote. “The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across Oʻahu have affected so many of our people especially those already facing hardship. Seeing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors hit the hardest.”
“We spent time on the west side, just trying to show love, bring some food, and remind our community that we see you, we stand with you, and you’re not alone,” he added. “That’s what aloha is. It’s showing up for each other when it matters most.”
The “Aquaman” star, 46, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
USA Today reported Saturday that the threat of a dam failing in northern Oahu prompted an emergency evacuation of thousands on the morning of March 20.
An alert warned that all roads out are at risk of “imminent failure.”
Governor Josh Green posted on X Saturday that they had evacuated 5,500 people as the North Shore was “bombarded” with heavy rain.
He shared that there were no casualties so far, but “a few serious injuries.”
He urged residents to not take the storm lightly, though noted that the storm was clearing from Oahu and moving on to Maui.
