Martin Short makes first red carpet appearance after daughter’s death

Martin Short made his first red carpet appearance three months after his daughter Katherine’s tragic death.

The comedian attended the Los Angeles special screening of his new Netflix documentary film, “Marty, Life Is Short,” on Wednesday at the Egyptian Theatre.

Martin, 76, was joined by his sons, Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36, and other loved ones as they took family photos on the red carpet.

The “Father of the Bride” actor wore a black suit with a checkered tie, while his sons also looked dapper in their own suits and ties.

Multiple celebrities attended the premiere, including Martin’s “Only Murders in the Building” co-star Selena Gomez and her husband, Benny Blanco, Kate Hudson, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin and Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.

The new doc, directed by Oscar nominee Lawrence Kasdan and premiering May 12, offers a glimpse into Martin’s life and career with “beautiful, intimate, never-before-seen archive” footage, according to Netflix.

In the trailer, Martin — who adopted his three children with late wife Nancy Dolman — mentions his tragedy-plagued life when he jokes to his brother Michael that he “had a speed dial to the funeral parlor.”

Over the years, Martin has lost Dolman; his parents, Olive Hayter and Charles Patrick Short; his eldest brother, David and most recently, his daughter Katherine, who died by suicide at age 42 in February.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a rep for the star confirmed to Page Six on Feb. 24.

“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the statement added.

Katherine, who was a social worker, was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Hollywood Hills, California, home.

Martin subsequently postponed two scheduled shows from his comedy tour with Steve Martin.

He made his first public outing one month after Katherine’s death for a dinner date with longtime pal J.J. Abrams in Santa Monica.

The “Three Amigos” star, who was dressed in a black blazer over a blue button-down shirt, appeared somber in the photos from the night out.

Katherine previously shared details of her struggles with mental health, divulging in a since-deleted professional website that she’d adopted a service dog named after Joni Mitchell.

“Joni is my incredible service dog, who has been assisting me with my own struggles with mental illness for the past 5 years,” Katherine wrote alongside a photo of the dog.

“Joni will often be in the office with me, cuddled up on her bed,” Katherine continued. “She is an absolute sweetheart and just LOVES people, so don’t be surprised if she greets you with a smile, a wagging tail…and maybe even a kiss.”
