Netflix’s upcoming Scooby Doo reboot skewered by critics
Netflix’s reboot of Scooby Doo is facing ridicule on social media following the release of the first trailer.
Scooby-doo: Origins is currently in production and is set to premiere around the world on Netflix in 2027.
The cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, Maxwell Jenkins as Fred, and Paul Walter Hauser, who is widely expected to be the voice of Scooby.
Minutes after the trailer appeared on TikTok, fans rushed to the comments to claim that Netflix had hired the wrong breed of dog for the series.
“Not a Great Dane. Barking, not speaking. Yall better take it back and make it right!” remarked one unhappy viewer.
“Scoob is a gold Great Dane with black spots. Not a chocolate lab,” added another.
A third agreed, commenting: “THAT IS NOT A GREAT DANE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!”
“Netflix ruins everything they touch. Not a Great Dane, not talking, and doesn’t even look like shaggy. Just no. I hope there’s a Sonic effect after public comment,” insisted a fourth, referencing when movie bosses were pushed to changing the design of Sonic the blockbuster movie franchise following fan backlash over the first trailer.
While another added: “SCOOBY IS A GREAT DANE! SOMEONE CALL THE TEAM THAT BULLIED THE SONIC MOVIE DESIGNERS!”
However, others insisted that Netflix has, in fact, hired a Great Dane and suggested people are being misled because the dog is still so young and looks can be deceiving.
“I fear you don’t know what a Labrador puppy looks like cause that’s not a lab,” said one fan.
Another insisted: “Yes. It is. I HAVE two Great Danes. Great Dane puppies look like labs for like 7 months!”
Origins is described as a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.
“Together with the pragmatic Velma, and the eccentric but handsome new boy on the block, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that pulls them all into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Scooby Doo: Origins hits Netflix in 2027.
