‘Ransom Canyon’ Showrunner Reveals If There Will Be More Cast Shakeups in Season 3 After Past Exits (Exclusive)
Ransom Canyon showrunner April Blair teased her vision for season 3 — including more potential cast shakeups.
“[There will] definitely [be] new faces,” Blair exclusively told Us. “I definitely want to learn more about Lucas and Kit’s parents. I feel like we’ve never really talked about that.”
Blair wanted to expand Lucas’ (Garrett Wareing) story, adding, “I really want to bring someone new to the canvas so that Lucas can have his own new experience and new love and just someone fun to shake things up.”
Outside of the Russell family, Blair hoped for more musical acts.
“Maybe we bring another version of a musical element to our story. Season 1, we had Charley Crockett performing in Gracie’s. And in season 2, we do this big blowout with the festival and Jordan Davis and Thomas Rhett,” she noted. “And what is a different version of bringing music to our show? Because I think it’s really integral.”
She continued: “Is it bringing someone who is a musician and is a character in the show? Quinn is building this musical mecca basically. She’s got Gracie’s and now she’s going to open the old theater. What does that bring to town and the new elements there?”
Blair hinted that the “possibilities are endless” for season 3.
Based on Jodi Thomas‘ book series about a town that is full of drama, romance and hope, Ransom Canyon, which premiered in April 2025, introduced Us to the locals in Texas Hill Country. Josh Duhamel‘s character, Staten, was grieving two major losses in season 1 while navigating his undeniable connection to childhood friend Quinn (Minka Kelly), who has also caught the eye of Staten’s brother-in-law and love triangle rival Davis (Eoin Macken).
There was also Yancy (Jack Schumacher), who had a past he was hiding from Ellie (Marianly Tejada). Viewers found themselves further invested in a love triangle between high school students Lucas (Wareing), Lauren (Lizzy Greene) and Reid (Andrew Liner).
During the second season, which premiered on Thursday, July 23, Davis (Macken), his son Reid (Liner) and Davis’ ex-wife Paula Jo (Meta Golding) were all no longer in the show. Their absence was mentioned after they played large roles in the first season of the hit Netflix series.
“Once the pipeline was in, [Austin Water and Power] cut bait,” Ellie (Tejada) explained to Quinn (Kelly). “All that money dried up. A half dozen ranches folded. A bunch of them just sold out and cashed in.”
Quinn asked if her ex was one of the people who left and Ellie confirmed he was part of the group. Davis rekindled his romance with Paula Jo while their son, Reid, was taking classes at Texas A&M.
Ransom Canyon is currently streaming on Netflix.
