James Handy’s partner details ‘Top Gun’ actor’s tragic final moments before fatal stabbing

James Handy’s partner, Wendy Gledhill, detailed the actor’s tragic final moments before he was allegedly stabbed to death by her son, Michael Gledhill.

“James had gotten up to get the newspaper at about 9 o’clock, but he didn’t make the coffee like he usually does,” Wendy told the Daily Mail during an interview at her and the “Top Gun: Maverick” star’s three-bedroom home in Los Angeles.

“I just heard the door open because he was getting the paper,” she added.

Wendy said she was still in bed and didn’t think anything out of the ordinary was occurring.

“I can only assume my son was already out there and they started to argue, from my understanding, on the front yard,” she recalled to the outlet.

Thirty minutes later, the Los Angeles Police Department knocked on their door and Wendy said she “didn’t know what was going on.”

“The first time I heard something was happening was when the police showed up,” she shared. “They said someone had called 911 and they told me someone was wrapped in a blanket outside the house.”

Wendy said she didn’t know who the cops were talking about. She was then instructed to get away from the door because they “thought there was still someone dangerous outside.”

Wendy — who has been Handy’s girlfriend for more than three decades — said she believes her son Michael, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, suffered a mental health crisis after he stopped taking his medication the prior week.

“So I don’t think he was taking it at the time [of the alleged attack], but I don’t know for sure,” she told the Daily Mail.

Wendy — whose son Michael, 44, had been living with her and the “Jumanji” star — said she has no idea what caused the confrontation.

She told the outlet that she hasn’t left the home since the tragedy because she is “beyond devastated.”

“I was with James for 31 years and of course I loved him dearly,” she said. “This is so difficult.”

Handy was killed on June 3. He was 81.

The “K-9” actor was found unconscious and bleeding out after he was repeatedly stabbed in the chest at his home, according to a police report.

Handy was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Michael was arrested and charged with one count of murder for the “K-911” star’s death after he called 911 with a chilling confession.

He is facing up to 26 years in prison.
