Kristen Stewart looks back on ‘embarrassing’ ‘Twilight’ shoots with Robert Pattinson

Kristen Stewart admitted that she took her role as Bella Swan in the “Twilight” films a little too serious.

The actress, 36, looked back on the mega popular franchise during her appearance on the “In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele” podcast episode that dropped Friday. Stewart called herself “a pretentious little loser” while referencing filming the first movie directed by Catherine Hardwicke, which came out in 2008.

“It was so so serious,” she said, mocking herself. “Me and Rob were like, ‘Yeah, this is like f—-ing epic, like, let’s try and, like, elevate this s—t,.’ And it’s like, just be exactly what age you are, and like say the words.”

Stewart was 17 years old when she filmed the first “Twilight.” She said she and her co-star Robert Pattinson had a very “teenage” attitude at the time.

“It was always like, ‘Oh my God, embarrassing. God, I just wanted to be like f-—king real and it’s, like, impossible. Everyone’s like making it f-—king impossible for it to be like f—king real,’” she joked. “And then you look at it, and you’re like, it was f—king real.”

Stewart insisted that she wasn’t annoyed to still be constantly asked about the films more than a decade later, and said she would do another film.

Pattinson, 40, shared a similar sentiment in April, but had no regrets about his performance.

“I really love that movie. I think I would have done it exactly the same — to be honest, I don’t even think I’d be able to do the performance now,” he told Vogue. “Everybody was approaching it so earnestly and took it really, really, really seriously.”

“There was no kind of tongue-in-cheek element. No one’s winking at the audience,” he continued. “It’s like it’s very real, which is strange for a movie about a vampire romance.”

Stewart and Pattinson dated for four years from 2009 to 2013, after meeting on the first “Twilight” movie. In 2012, she was famously photographed cheating on Pattinson with Rupert Sanders, the then-married director of her film “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

The “momentary indiscretion” led to a public apology by Stewart.

The actress is now married to writer and director Dylan Meyer, who directed her in her upcoming stoner comedy, “The Wrong Girls,” which also stars Alia Shawkat. Meyer, 38, and Stewart tied the knot in April 2025.
