Andy Garcia Reveals Most ‘Unexpected’ Moment of His Career Was Moving to Los Angeles (Exclusive)
Andy Garcia is reflecting on the most terrifying career move he ever made.
“The unexpected thing was leaving the comforts of home and moving to another city like Los Angeles [to] pursue a career,” Garcia, 69, told Us Weekly exclusively at the Landman season 2 premiere on Tuesday, November 11. “You don’t know where you’re going, there’s nobody there waiting for you. You just get off the plane and you begin.”
He added, “There’s an element of being scared, but you’re in it to win it. All the obstacles that come your way, you just keep falling forward. You get up closer to your destination.”
Garcia was born in Cuba but moved to Florida when he was young. After graduating from Florida International University, he relocated to Los Angeles to start his acting career. Now, the legendary actor is gearing up to go head-to-head with b in the second season of the breakout Paramount+ series Landman.
Garcia was introduced during the Landman season 1 finale earlier this year when saving Thornton’s Tommy Norris, who had been kidnapped by a drug cartel. Garcia’s character proposed a partnership between himself and Tommy, but it didn’t work out as planned. Not much is known about how Garcia’s character will impact the second season — and he’s staying tight-lipped for now.
He told Us and other outlets on the red carpet that he “really can’t talk” about the character at all.
However, other members of the Landman cast can’t help but gush over working with the film legend.
Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris in the show, told Us Weekly exclusively on Monday, November 10, that Garcia’s character will have a “huge” impact on his story line specifically.
“He changes the dynamic of what Cooper thought he was doing,” teased Lofland, 29. “There’s lots to come.”
Season 2 will have a lot of secrets, and “Tommy Norris’ breaking point may be closer than he realizes,” the show’s official logline teases. “Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller (Demi Moore) and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble — it’s brutal.”
As for what Lofland is most excited for viewers to see this time around?
“The whole thing,” he said. “The arc itself is really the greatest part of it. You got to watch the whole thing.”
Mustafa Speaks, who plays Boss, also talked about having Garcia on set.
“Andy Garcia is just Andy Garcia. You hear that name, you know what he’s gonna do,” said Speaks, 40. “I’m just excited for you all to see it. There’s not much I can say about it until you see it.”
Mark Collie, who plays Sheriff Walt Joeberg, felt similarly.
“To see him on set, from my standpoint, I don’t have words for that — and I’m supposed to be a writer,” quipped Collie, 69. “He’s fabulous to have around. I can’t tell you more than that.”
New episodes of Landman season 2 premiere via Paramount+ every Sunday starting November 16.
