Angelina Jolie and Daughter Zahara Pose on Red Carpet After Actress Finalizes Divorce From Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie and daughter Zahara stepped out together in the actress’ first public appearance since her divorce from Brad Pitt was finalized.
The Lara Croft: Tomb Raider star, 49, and her daughter, 19, posed together on the red carpet while attending the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Friday, January 3.
Angelina wore a black halter neck dress and debuted new bangs for the event, while Zahara opted for a white one-shoulder gown.
At the event at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Angelina was honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress for her work in the Netflix movie Maria.
The mother-daughter outing comes less than a week after Angelina and ex-husband Pitt finalized their divorce after eight years.
Angelina first filed for divorce in 2016, setting off a lengthy legal battle over ownership of their $164 million French winery, Château Miraval, and the custody of their children — Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, Knox, 16 and Vivienne, 16. They settled their divorce on December 30 but have been legally single since 2019.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Jolie’s lawyer James Simon told Us in a statement. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
A rep for Pitt declined to confirm or comment.
When it comes to the former couple’s kids, a source told Us Weekly exclusively in April 2019 of Angelina: “Her kids are her life. Every day is a new adventure.”
The insider added: “[Jolie] really likes the life lessons and new ideas that come from trying all different things. The sky’s the limit for her.”
Angelina has previously gushed over her children, including Zahara. The Maleficent star told Hello magazine in 2017 that there was a specific attribute her daughter had that brought her joy.
“The sound of Zahara’s laugh,” Angelina told the outlet when asked what made her happy. “She is one of those people who laughs with her whole body. Completely open and full of joy.”
The actress also raved about Zahara while speaking with Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate for a TIME 100 Talk in a video interview in 2020.
“My daughter is from Ethiopia, one of my children … And I have learned so much from her,” Angelina said. “She is my family, but she is an extraordinary African woman and her connection to her country, her continent, is her own and it’s something I only stand back in awe of.”
