Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt’s ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ salaries revealed
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt reportedly earned $12.5 million each to return for “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
Although Streep could have scored much more to reprise her role as the iconic Miranda Priestly, insiders told Variety that she settled for less to ensure her two co-stars also collected a nice payday.
Two sources told the outlet that Streep, Hathaway and Blunt negotiated a “favored nations” deal with the sequel’s 20th Century Studios distributor – meaning all three actresses received the same $12.5 million salary.
But the trio could see even more money coming their way, because they reportedly negotiated for box office bonuses as well.
The sequel, which picks up 20 years after the 2006 original, has earned an estimated $433 million globally since its May 1 release, per Variety.
Two more sources told the outlet that the co-stars can expect an additional $20 million if the David Frankel-directed flick continues its impressive box office run.
Reps for Streep, Hathaway and Blunt did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Besides Streep as the ruthless Miranda Priestly, Hathaway and Blunt both reprised their respective “The Devil Wears Prada” roles as Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton.
Stanley Tucci also reprised his original role as Nigel Kipling.
Shortly before the highly anticipated sequel hit theaters earlier this month, the three-time Oscar winner revealed that she initially refused to star as Miranda Priestly in the 2006 original.
“I knew it was going to be a hit,” Streep, 76, told Jenna Bush Hager during an episode of “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle” last month.
“I read the script — the script was great. They called me up, and they made an offer, and I said, ‘No. I’m not going to do it,’” she added.
The “Big Little Lies” alum went on to explain that she “wanted to see” what would happen if she doubled her asking price, and that the studio immediately said yes after she did just that.
“And I wanted it, but if they didn’t want to do that, I was OK. Because I’m old — I’m 56, I was ready to retire,” Streep shared.
The original “Devil Wears Prada,” which was also directed by Frankel, went on to bring in over $326 million at the global box office on a $40 million budget.
