Another Simple Favor: All About the Highly-Anticipate Sequel Starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick

Pour out a martini, because A Simple Favor is getting a highly-anticipated sequel titled Another Simple Favor.

Following the release of the first film in 2018, a sequel was officially announced in May 2022 and Amazon MGM Studios has since confirmed that Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and Henry Golding will reprise their roles. 

Based on the novel of the same name by Darcey Bell, the first film follows two mothers, Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively), who form an unlikely friendship. As the two learn more about each other, things take a turn when Emily suddenly goes missing and Stephanie leads the charge to find her, discovering some hidden secrets along the way. 

The film received critical acclaim for its twists and turns, as well as Lively and Kendrick’s performances. As director Paul Feig previously told PEOPLE ahead of the first film’s release, “Our movie is all about appearances being not what they seem and so we loved the idea of playing with the concept of ‘It’s not what you think.’ ”

The world premiere of Another Simple Favor will take place at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin on March 7.

Who is in the cast of Another Simple Favor?

Lively and Kendrick will reprise their roles as Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers, respectively, in Another Simple Favor.

Additionally, Henry Golding, who played Lively’s onscreen husband in the first film, will return alongside Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack.

What is Another Simple Favor about?

According to a synopsis, Another Simple Favor sees the “return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.”

“Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square,” the synopsis continues. 

As the first film ends with Emily being sentenced to prison, it appears that the new film will possibly jump forward in time and follow her life post-prison. 

Who is directing Another Simple Favor?

Paul Feig, the mastermind behind the first film as well as hits like Bridesmaids, directed Another Simple Favor.

In February 2025, Feig defended Lively amid the actress’ ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, who has alleged that creative differences led to two very different versions of It Ends with Us being made — one that made it to theaters and a director’s cut that remains unreleased.

Feig denied rumors that the same thing happened with Another Simple Favor.

“It’s my cut,” the director said on Instagram “There is no other cut. Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with. She is the best and an amazing collaborator and I’m her biggest fan.”

Who is writing Another Simple Favor?

The script for Another Simple Favor, based on Bell’s characters from the novel, was written by Jessica Sharzer, who previously worked on the first film.

When will Another Simple Favor be released? 

From Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate, Another Simple Favor will bypass theaters and be available to stream on Prime Video on May 1.
