Bella Thorne has made new claims about her short-lived romance with Charlie Puth.

On Friday, July 11, Thorne gave her two cents on an entertainment account’s Instagram post featuring a quote from former Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, who said she “wouldn’t collaborate” with Puth.

In the comments section, Thorne, 27, replied to Thirlwall’s response, “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. Do the deed with him.”

Thorne and Puth were briefly linked in December 2016 when they were spotted together at Jingle Ball in Miami — and Puth serenaded her onstage.

However, their rumored romance was short-lived after Puth, 33, accused Thorne of infidelity on X (formerly Twitter). At the time, he claimed that Thorne hadn’t broken things off with Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey.

“I can’t believe what I’m reading,” Puth wrote at the time. “No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I’m not going to be in the middle of it.”

Though he didn’t name the Shake It Up alum in his posts, he did apologize to Posey in a follow-up post.

“I don’t know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn’t be treated this way,” he wrote, adding, “She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me.”

Thorne responded on X hours later and clarified that she wasn’t dating either Puth or Posey.

“Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends. That article was written forever ago,” she wrote, referencing a a Paper magazine piece published at the time. “Charlie and I were hanging out.. he saw an old interview and got butthurt but instead of texting me and asking about it he put it on Twitter.”

A rep for Puth did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Then, in July 2017, Thorne made an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show and she claimed that “Light Switch” singer had the situation all wrong.

“Honestly, Ty and I stopped dating and that was really difficult for me. It was definitely one of the hardest breakups I’ve been through,” Thorne said. “Basically, Ty and I stopped dating and Charlie had been tweeting about me for a while. He was trying to reach out to me.”

“I hung out with him twice. We went to the movies. He was cool,” she continued. “I was like, ‘Wow, you’re really talented. Holy s—. You’re f—ing great, dude.’ And then he invited me to Jingle Ball to watch him perform.”

At the time, the pair posed on the red carpet together and Thorne said she was excited to see him perform. After that, however, things got “blown way out of proportion.” She also said she reached out to Posey, 33, to make sure he understood the situation and cleared the air. They even hung out when she returned home.

“Charlie saw an old news article, and he didn’t look at the date, and the date is old, and it’s about me and Ty,” she said. “In Charlie’s defense, when he read it, not reading the date, it sounded like it was about me and Ty still being together. He didn’t even text me or talk to me about it.”

Thorne is now engaged to film producer Mark Emms. In December 2023, she told PEOPLE that they “draw closer” every day — but weren’t deep into wedding planning.

Meanwhile, Puth confirmed on Instagram he married childhood pal Brooke Sansone in September of last year.

“I love you Brooke…I always have, with you I am my very best. I promise I’ll love you everyday in this life, and even more when we move on to our next,” he wrote at the time.
