Benny Blanco Admits to Shazaming His Own Songs After Hearing Them in Public: ‘I Can’t Remember Anything’

NEED TO KNOW
- Benny Blanco admitted to Shazaming his own songs in public because he “can’t remember anything”
- The producer has worked with artists including Britney Spears, Kesha and Ed Sheeran
- His most recent release is the album I Said I Love You First, which he collaborated on with his fiancée, Selena Gomez
Benny Blanco can’t keep track of everything.
While appearing on the Thursday, July 10 episode of Therapuss, the producer admitted to forgetting what he’s worked on when telling host Jake Shane about his music catalog.
“The first, like ,big pop thing that I ever worked on was Britney Spears,” Blanco, 37, began. “Sometimes I am in a restaurant and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, this song’s so good.’ And I Shazam it, and then it’s my own song.”
Shane, 25, asked Blanco how he doesn’t realize what music is his.

“I’m old and I can’t remember anything. And I’ve done like hundreds of songs that have come out,” he said.
Blanco added that he’s been “making songs for 16 years” and compared it to being able to recall everyone Shane interviewed on his own podcast if he had been doing it for that long.
Throughout his career, Blanco has worked with Spears, 43, on “Circus,” Kesha’s “TiK ToK,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Rihanna’s “Diamonds” and Ed Sheeran’s “Happier” to name a few.
He has also collaborated with his now-fiancée Selena Gomez on the 2015 song “Same Old Love,” years before they started dating.
In March, Blanco and Gomez, 32, released their album I Said I Love You First, which gives fans a unique look at their relationship.
“This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences,” a press release said at the time.
In the Therapuss podcast, Blanco also gave fans an update on his and Gomez’s wedding planning — or lack thereof.
“We both need to chill. We’ve both been working so much,” he said of their current schedules.
Added Blanco: “We got engaged and then we were filming music videos for our album, then it’s holidays, then right after the holidays we had to start all the promo for our stuff, do that.”

Gomez then went to film Only Murders in the Building and do promo for the show, and then, Blanco found himself working on a book.
He said they are “working on so many things that we hadn’t even had time to get into it,” but are “excited” nonetheless.
