Bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman is crediting his daughter with saving his life after revealing his sepsis diagnosis.
Two weeks after a statement from his family informed fans that the eight-time Mr. Olympia, 61, was in the hospital “due to a serious medical condition,” Coleman himself let fans know how he is doing.
He shared in a video posted on Instagram and TikTok on Tuesday, July 15, that “these past few weeks have been some of the toughest of my life.”

“Your boy was hit with sepsis, and it nearly killed me. Had it not been for my 13-year-old daughter, it probably would have,” he said, without further elaborating.
According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis is a condition in which the body’s response to an infection is improper, resulting in the organs functioning poorly. This can progress to septic shock, which is a dramatic drop in blood pressure that can damage the lungs, kidneys, liver and other organs.
Coleman shares four daughters with his wife, Susan Williamson, whom he married in April 2016, according to Complex. He also has two daughters from a previous marriage, while Williamson has two children from a prior relationship.
The fitness star said that he has been “faced with battles in my life, but nothing like this.”
“I’m still here because the grace of God still wants me to be here and the support I get from all of y’all that all helps out a whole whole lot,” he said.
Wanting to use his platform for good, Coleman said he was supporting the Sepsis Alliance through his Ronnie Strong movement.
According to a previous health update from Coleman’s family, Ronnie Strong is an initiative to support his recovery and raise awareness about sepsis.
“As part of this effort, a portion of the net proceeds from Ronnie Strong will be donated to [the] Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis advocacy nonprofit, to further its mission of saving lives and reducing suffering through education and outreach,” the update read.
Coleman ended his video by expressing that he is going to “let God use me as he has done my whole entire life because not once did I ask to be here and not once am I gonna ask to leave him.”
“God brought me here and God is gonna have me to leave him when it’s time for me to go,” continued Coleman before ending with his signature catchphrases.
In the caption, Coleman further detailed how he was feeling, expressing that “this sepsis infection almost took your boy out.”
“Most people don’t even know what sepsis is. I didn’t either… until it almost took me away from my family,” he wrote. Coleman vowed to dedicate his journey and his voice to being an advocate.
