Country stars Dan + Shay give update on pal Jelly Roll’s ‘tough’ divorce
The country music community is rallying behind one of their own.
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, who together make up the hit duo Dan + Shay, shared an update on how their pal Jelly Roll is doing amid his headline-making divorce from Bunnie Xo.
“I saw him the other night, actually. Yeah, I ran into him,” Smyers exclusively told Page Six at the Tight Ends & Friends Concert, presented by Reese’s in Nashville Tuesday night.
“He was great,” he continued. “We didn’t really get into it, but I’m happy for him.”
Smyers also shouted out Jelly Roll for a social media post he shared earlier in the day in which the “Son of a Sinner” singer looked back on his fitness journey.
“The post he did was amazing,” he gushed. “I was like, ‘Damn, that’s my guy.’ It was cool.”
Mooney, on the other hand, offered praise for both Jelly Roll and Bunnie in how they’ve handled themselves in the week since news of their divorce rocked not only Music City but country music fans everywhere.
“They’ve handled it with class. It’s a tough thing to go through very, very publicly,” he told Page Six at Tuesday night’s event, hosted by Tight End University alongside Sports Illustrated.
“I mean, as married guys, if we had to go through something like that that publicly, it’s really tough on both parties and they’ve both handled it well,” Mooney noted. “We want the best for both of them. They’re great.”
Page Six confirmed on June 15 that Jelly Roll had quietly filed for divorce from Bunnie after nearly 10 years of marriage — having tied the knot in August 2016 — about a month earlier.
In the May 18 filing, the Grammy winner cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their breakup.
Jelly Roll broke his silence on the divorce mid-concert during the June 18 show of his Little ASS Shed Tour in Saratoga Springs, New York.
“This is the only time and the only city I’m gonna speak about this, so break your camera phones out now,” he told the audience in a video obtained by Page Six.
“Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends,” he continued, noting that Bunnie will “probably be the only woman I will ever love the way I loved her” and that “nobody cheated on nobody.”
The country superstar then plugged Bunnie’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast episode — released earlier that evening — in which she addressed their shocking divorce.
“Every word of it is the truth,” he said of his estranged wife telling her side of the story. “That will be my best friend forever. This is the only time I will ever speak about it. Bunnie, I love you, baby.”
In her podcast episode, Bunnie opened up about the fight that led to the split and put an end to the rumors she is dating Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger.
Elsewhere in the nearly hourlong recording session, Bunnie revealed she and Jelly Roll are still planning to have a baby together despite her estranged husband already dating again.
While the former couple don’t share any children together just yet, Jelly Roll is dad to daughter Bailee Ann, 18, and son Noah Buddy, 9.
