Cynthia Nixon is saying a bittersweet goodbye to the And Just Like That… cast and crew.
On Friday, Aug. 1, after showrunner Michael Patrick King announced that And Just Like That… will end with season 3, Nixon, 59, penned a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for starring on the HBO Max series.
“I can’t believe our wild beautiful And Just Like That ride is almost over,” she began. “It has been such a delight from start to finish.”
“I will miss working with these people everyday SO incredibly much but know we will always be a part of each other’s lives,” she continued, before teasing, “Get ready for a lot more carousels in the weeks to come! And don’t miss these last few episodes: surprises in store! 🫢.”
Nixon added several photos and videos to her Instagram carousel commemorating her time as Miranda Hobbes in the original series, Sex and the City, its subsequent feature films and its revival series.
In the carousel, she included several images of core castmates Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis, as well as the characters’ group of friends featured throughout the years, including Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman and Willie Garson — the latter of whom played Carrie’s dear friend in the series and died following a short illness in 2021.
She also paid tribute to different on-screen partners, David Eigenberg (who played Steve) and Sara Ramirez (who played Che Diaz). Plus, she shared photos of the evolution of her character — and on-screen son, Brady Hobbes (played by Joseph Pupo and Niall Cunningham), from infancy to adolescence.
Nixon also shared Parker’s post on her Instagram Stories, writing over it, “I could watch this again and again 🥲.” Adding, “Thank you @sarahjessicaparker (& our gorgeous cast & crew!) for the quarter century of memories and friendships ❤️.”
Series lead, Parker, 60, reflected on the past 27 years as Carrie Bradshaw. “She broke hearts, heels, habits,” Parker’s caption began. “She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short and into puddles. Aged, got wiser. She has made the hardest, worst and best decisions.”
“Traveled near and far for the new, the vintage, friends and love. Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City. She had dates, drinks, boyfriends, a husband and truly great loves and romances. She hailed cabs. She ran in heels. And danced with Stanford,” Parker continued, including an ode to Garson.
Parker then called out Carrie’s three best friends, played by Nixon, Davis and Kim Cattrall, as she wrote, “Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends.”
Davis, 60, commented on Parker’s farewell post, “Beautiful 😭😭😭😭😭😭.”
“I am profoundly sad,” Davis wrote in an Instagram post that shared King’s statement. “I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever. ❤️”
King said in the Friday, Aug. 1 announcement that the decision to end the series came to him while he was writing season 3’s finale: “It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”
He also said that he and Parker “held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the world ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.”
