The Wicked films may have concluded, but there’s certainly more Oz to explore.
East of Envy, Nikki St. Crowe’s thrilling sequel to West of Wicked, follows the ongoing tale of Dorothy Gale as she’s trapped in Oz — a darker, stranger and more dangerous version than the one readers have come to know. In St. Crowe’s cursed land of Oz, Dorothy meets peril at every turn, and faces fresh threats that readers will never see coming.
The dark and spicy tale inspired by the characters in L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book debuts November 2026.
In West of Wicked, “where the villain gets the girl and the girl gets the power,” readers first meet Dorothy, who has no memory of where she came from before she was dropped on Em and Henry’s doorstep at just 5 years old. When a cyclone deposits her in Oz, the protagonist teams up with the Scarecrow, who she finds beaten and bloody, tied to a post in a cornfield.
The first novel, which debuts April 14, sees Dorothy travel all throughout the ominous land of Oz — dodging forest monsters, heartless mercenaries and wicked witches along the way.
East of Envy picks up with Dorothy — fresh off of the Wizard of Oz’s betrayal and abuse — seeking out the most unlikely of allies: the Tin Woodman, per the book’s official synopsis. Like Dorothy, the mercenary also has an ax to grind with the Wizard, who stole both his heart and his little brother, Gabriel.
“Everything about Tin is dangerous. And the closer Dorothy gets, the harder it is to tell what scares her more — his blade, or the fire he ignites within her,” the synopsis reads.
“But defeating the Wizard won’t be easy. His magic hums beneath every brick and coils through every whisper, until you’re walking in circles on the Yellow Brick Road,” the synopsis continues. “He has all of Oz under his spell and more power than anyone.”
But the more time Dorothy spends in Oz, the more memories return to her. Dorothy is beginning to remember crucial things: “things about her past, about what she is and about the magic awakening inside her.”
