Fans Erupt Over Emma Stone Wearing a Cardigan at the 2026 Actor Awards: ‘Never Works’
Fans are giving Emma Stone’s shimmery cardigan at SAG-AFTRA’s 32nd Actor Awards mixed reviews.
Stone, 37, made headlines after hitting the red carpet in a lilac Louis Vuitton beaded slip dress and coordinating cardigan at the event on Sunday, March 1.
While some loved the long-sleeve cardigan, others would have preferred her outfit sans sweater. “The dress is cute, I prefer that it wasn’t styled with the jacket and maybe with a different hairstyle,” one critic wrote via Instagram on Monday, March 2. Another questioned, “The color is out of this world on her, but, a cardigan? On a red carpet? I mean, yes to comfort, I guess?” A third added, “The little jacket never works, I’m sorry.”
Others were here for her jacket, writing, “I like it, very reminiscent to 90s/2000’s red carpets.” Another supporter commented, “I loveeee this look,” and a third echoed, “It’s so cute stop, I love it.”
While posing for photos, Stone delivered drama in the high-fashion number featuring spaghetti straps, a scoop neck and a column skirt. She teamed her simplistic dress with a sparkling cardigan featuring delicate beading that shimmered with every move she made.
Stone tied her look together with glowy makeup and a chic hairdo. Her glam included dewy skin, manicured eyebrows and bronzed cheeks with a touch of blush. Using the Louis Vuitton Ombres Eyeshadow Palette, Stone stunned with a shimmery pearly shade tapped on her eyelids, which she complimented with mascara and eyeliner. She finished her makeup with a satin Louis Vuitton lipstick in the shade Beige Machina.
Her crimson red hair was parted slightly to the side and styled in loose waves with pieces strategically pinned up. She added volume to her hair with the Roz Air thickening spray, as well as the brand’s lift spray.
This year at the Actors Awards, Stone was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her part in Bugonia. Hamnet star Jessie Buckley ended up taking the trophy home.
While filming Bugonia, Stone said goodbye to her auburn locks and shaved off her mane. In August 2025, she opened up about the experience while chatting with Vogue.
“No better feeling in the world,” she said of her look. “The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.”
While she ended up enjoying her bald head, Stone shared that she cried in her trailer beforehand and recalled her mom, Krista Stone, losing her tresses while undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
“She actually did something brave,” Emma explained. “I’m just shaving my head.” She noted that her mother was actually “jealous” that Emma got to experience a shaved head. “My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again,’” Emma recalled.
After growing her hair out a bit, Emma debuted a pixie cut at the 2025 Golden Globes in January 2025. She admitted that she wished her hair was even shorter while debuting her new ‘do. “I was bummed I wasn’t going out with it,” Emma said. “Just straight-up bald. I think that would have been fun.”
