NEED TO KNOW

  • Hours after The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 finale dropped, Prime Video made the surprise announcement that there will be an original movie that will properly conclude the story
  • The cast of the hit series has said that they know little to nothing about what’s to come in the movie, which author Jenny Han will write and direct
  • Gavin Casalegno joked that he’s gone as far as trying to “bribe” the author-turned-showrunner for intel on the movie plot

Even The Summer I Turned Pretty cast is feeling starved for any tidbits about the surprise movie that will officially conclude the franchise.

Following Prime Video’s announcement that season 3 was not, in fact, the end of the road for Jenny Han’s beloved adaptation, which came hours after the show’s series finale premiered on Sept. 17, the cast has been peppered with questions about what the movie will look like.

Han, who wrote the trilogy of books the show was adapted from and who will write and direct the movie, confirmed that she and her co-writer, Sarah Kucserka, have finished a draft of the script. Yet, no other concrete updates have been shared — and, like most of the cast, Gavin Casalegno is totally in the dark.

“Oh my gosh, I wish I knew about the movie. I literally don’t know anything,” he told Vogue Italia during a Milan Fashion Week “Get Ready with Me” video.

Casalegno admitted that he “tried to bribe Jenny to give me some insider tips” on what’s to come, but he’s still empty-handed. “I was not able to get anything.”

Han told PEOPLE that wrapping up Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad’s (Christopher Briney) story with a movie “was always my vision.”

“I feel like there [are] still some more things that the audience wants to see, and I wanted to deliver that to them in a bigger way than [just] wrapping up at the end of the season,” she said.

“I’m excited to offer that gift to the fans who I know really want to see Belly and Conrad together in a relationship,” she teased of what’s to come. “Because we see the beginnings of a return to each other [in the finale], but you don’t get to see what that looks like. So I’m excited for that.”

Casalegno, 26, previously told PEOPLE what he thinks could be in store for Jeremiah in the movie, given the new romance he explored in the season finale with Denise (Isabella Briggs)

“I think it’s a little early for Jeremiah to be jumping back into a relationship,” the actor said about the chances that Jeremiah and Denise are still an item in the movie.

“Obviously, they’ve been living together for a little bit, and you learn — you spend a lot of time with [that] person, but genuinely, I think it might be too early for that.”

One thing is for sure: the movie will explore the aftermath of Belly and Conrad choosing to be together and bringing their relationship back to the U.S. after their Paris reunion.

“There’s a lot unaddressed” between Conrad and Jeremiah, Briney, 27, told PEOPLE, so the movie will need to see them “reintegrate” with their family and friends.

“It’s kind of like the beginning of their happy relationship. But there’s a lot of unfinished business with Jeremiah — and even Steven and Taylor,” Tung, 22, told PEOPLE. “There’s so much to explore.”

Seasons 1-3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty are available to stream on Prime Video.
