Concerned Instagram users breathed a sigh of relief as Greg Rutherford updated them on his health and revealed he now sports a nasty scar on his stomach.

The former Olympian, 37, penned a short “stomach update, to his 197k followers this Tuesday, April 16, 2024, adding a string of photos of his abdominal scar to the mix as he continues to recover from surgery. “I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better”, he wrote, adding: “I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.”

Despite his progress, the former Dancing on Ice contestant, still pointed out some issues in his recovery but seemed to tease his return to the ITV competition: “I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates.”

Greg’s comment section was immediately flooded with supportive comments with one follower replying to the post with: “Very glad that you’re on the mend Greg.” Another added: “Oh bless that looks painful, take care.”

The former track and field athlete missed the Dancing on Ice final, aired Sunday, March 10, after “effectively (giving himself) a C-section” while preparing for his ultimate steps in the rink. Greg sustained the injury by sliding through the legs of professional skaters Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton and was forced to withdraw from the competition on the morning of the final.

Two weeks following Ryan Thomas and Amani Fancy’s triumph, Greg broke his silence via a post on his Instagram account, letting his fans know his injury would be operated on that same day, March 21. “Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section”, he had then detailed. Hours later, he’d shared a post-op update, writing: “Operation done. Recovery starts here.”

Greg also showed his followers the moment he sustained his “horribly painful” injury through a video and explained: “It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend.”

With Greg, who was second favourite when going into the final, unable to perform with his partner, figure skater Vanessa James, former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, Made In Chelsea star Miles Nazaire and radio presenter Adele Roberts were all left to compete for the Dancing On Ice trophy.

As mentioned, Ryan Thomas and Amani Fancy were crowned winners of the 2024 edition of Dancing on Ice – but the actor dedicated his victory to Greg.
