Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are having a Venice International Film Festival date night.
The husband-and-wife filmmakers stepped out on Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Lido di Venezia to celebrate the premiere of the George Clooney-led movie Jay Kelly, written and directed by Baumbach, 55.
Gerwig, 42, returned to Venice in a black dress with a sheer black overlay speckled with glittering flowers. She finished the look with swept-back hair and a chain-like silver necklace. Her husband kept it classic in a black tuxedo with a bowtie.
Jay Kelly marks the first time that Clooney, 64, has worked with Baumbach. The actor — who walked the carpet with wife Amal, after skipping previous festival events due to ill health — plays the titular character, a famous movie star on a journey throughout Europe.
The movie — which Baumbach co-wrote with actress Emily Mortimer — costars Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Isla Fisher, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher and Gerwig herself.
Gerwig and Baumbach, who have been together since 2011, tied the knot in 2023 and share two sons. They last appeared at the Venice festival together in 2022 for the premiere of White Noise, which was written and directed by Baumbach and starred Gerwig. The pair has collaborated on multiple films together since 2012’s Frances Ha, including Margot Robbie’s 2023 hit Barbie.
Sandler, Dern, Keough, Crudup, Rohrwacher, Hewson and Mortimer were among the other attendees at the Jay Kelly premiere. Baumbach also posed for photos alongside his son Rohmer, who he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Jason Leigh.
