Grimes debuted a new tattoo, and fans have a lot to say.
In a selfie shared on Wednesday, Oct. 22, Grimes revealed her ‘innovative’ face tattoo. The tattoo can also be seen in Grimes’ new music video for “Artificial Angels,” released on Friday, Oct. 17.
The tattoo was done by a cybersigilism tattoo artist known as Glyphomancer. Cybersigilism is a style of tattooing that fuses ancient symbolism with futuristic aesthetics.
“I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work esp on face tats- there’s a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo,” Grimes, 37, wrote in her caption.
Though the Canadian singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, is no stranger to getting inked, her newest tattoo is the first on her face. She explained that she’s “spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo.”
Grimes has long expressed her desire for a face tattoo. In 2022, the musician took to Instagram to ask her followers for their thoughts on her getting a face tattoo.
“I am very seriously considering getting a white ink tattoo on my face next week,” she wrote alongside a selfie of herself. “Any thoughts?”
Now that she’s actually gotten the tattoo, people have thoughts — and lots of them.
“I remember my first Ringworm…” one user commented, noting the tattoo’s faint red ink and circular shape.
“So happy you did it queen,” wrote another.
Some fans can’t seem to find the minimalist tattoo, asking, “Is the tattoo in the room with us?”
The singer joked about the subtlety of her fresh ink, writing, “I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed, not even my parents, not even after the video lol.”
The artist behind the controversial tattoo commented, “It looks so great on youuu.” To which Grimes responded, “@glyphomancer genius level work as always.”
Grimes ended her post with, “Feel like tats are in a crazy renaissance period that’s sort of under appreciated atm.”
