Kristen Bell limits social media comments after ‘tone-deaf’ post about Dax Shepard anniversary
Kristen Bell limited her Instagram comments after critics slammed her “tone-deaf” message honoring her and Dax Shepard’s 12th wedding anniversary.
On Monday, the “Nobody Wants This” star shut out the critics in light of her controversial post over the weekend that read, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you.’”
She recalled the actor also telling her that “a lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point,” but reassured he “would never” do the same despite being “heavily incentivized to kill [her].”
Bell, 45, was immediately called out by critics, highlighting that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“Thats a wildly sad and insensitive thing to say considering it’s domestic violence awareness month and thousands of women have died a the hands of the man they trusted…,” one person wrote.
“just an fyi, posting this caption during domestic violence awareness month is unbelievably tone deaf :/ please reconsider,” another chimed in.
“Oh wow … that’s a very odd thing to say🧐,” a third agreed.
Several others told the actress that abuse wasn’t a topic to take lightly, writing that it was a “joke” that Bell would consider the post “sweet.”
Bell has yet to comment publicly on the uproar.
The “Veronica Mars” alum, meanwhile, nearly forgot it was her and Shepard’s anniversary on Friday until she was reminded by an “Entertainment Tonight” reporter at the “Nobody Wants This” Season 2 premiere the day prior.
While stopping to talk with the outlet on the red carpet, she thanked the reporter for the reminder, saying, “You know I don’t remember that. Oh, shoot. I’m so glad that you told me.”
Despite not remembering the big day, Bell shared she and Shepard, 50, did have a date night planned, though she didn’t think he remembered their anniversary either.
Bell and “Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard” podcaster tied the knot in 2013.
The couple share two daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10.
