Hallmark star Mike Heslin died because restaurant staff halted CPR: lawsuit
Hallmark star Mike Heslin died during his birthday trip to Las Vegas after restaurant staffers allegedly blocked CPR from being performed during his medical emergency, a new lawsuit claims.
Heslin’s husband, Scotty Dynamo, claimed in a new filing that staffers at Javier’s at the Aria Hotel allowed an “avoidable tragedy” through multiple “failures” to provide emergency care, according to docs obtained by Daily Mail.
Dynamo claimed in the suit filed Sept. 18 that the “Lioness” actor had “exhibited obvious signs of a medical emergency,” but that the restaurant staff did not do anything to help and even “forcefully interfered” with a nearby diner who attempted to perform CPR.
Heslin’s friends also claimed in the docs that the restaurant never retrieved an automated external defibrillator (AED) during the medical emergency, despite having one on the property.
They also alleged being “forcefully removed” from the resort during the incident.
Restaurant staffers are accused of preventing other diners from helping Heslin, and his friends claimed they were “threatened with arrest” for trying to provide aid, according to the lawsuit.
His pals also claim they attempted to record the incident on their phones, but that staffers allegedly “demanded” that the videos be deleted, per the docs.
The restaurant is being sued for five counts of wrongful death; loss of consortium; negligence; negligent hiring, retention, training and supervision; and gross negligence, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Heslin’s spouse claimed that Heslin’s death was “a direct and proximate result of Defendants’ acts and omissions” and is seeking damages in excess of $30,000, funeral expenses, and punitive damages.
MGM Resorts International denied Dynamo’s accusations via a statement to Page Six Monday.
“These claims are not aligned with the facts, and we will respond through the legal process,” the hospitality company said.
Dynamo did not immediately return our request for comment.
Dynamo mourned the loss of his “soulmate” in a heartbreaking Instagram post last July, writing that Heslin died from an “unexpected cardiac arrest.” He was 35.
“Michael was young, in perfect health, and the doctors have no explanation for what happened,” Dynamo wrote at the time, adding, “When I felt you take your last breath, my heart shattered into a million pieces.
“If I had the power to trade places with you, I would do it in an instant.”
