I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer Teases Return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially back in season.
On Tuesday, April 22, Sony Pictures debuted the first trailer for the horror sequel, starring Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King and more.
Stars of the 1997 original, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt also make a comeback in the new film.
“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences,” teases a synopis for the new movie. “A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.”
The logline adds, “As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”

Nearly three decades ago, I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1997 starring Prinze, Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Prinze, 49, will reprise his role as Ray alongside Hewitt, 46, who is returning as Julie James. (They both returned in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer too.)
Hewitt recently told PEOPLE there are plenty of nostalgic callbacks and easter eggs throughout the new film.
“There’s lots of ’90s in there, so get excited because the ’90s are back again!” she said. “And there’s lots of twists and turns. I don’t think people are going to expect anything that’s coming. It’s a really fun ride.”
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson said, “We approached it like super fans, so I think people are going to be really happy. All the things that you want to see in this movie, you’re going to see in this movie.”
The scares are “much more brutal” too, Robinson added: “There’s definitely more methodology to every kill in this movie, unlike the first, which is kind of just him stalking them and going after them. There’s not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certainly is in this one.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer is in theaters July 18.
