Judd Apatow shares his six favorite books
Ever wonder what your favorite celebrities are reading — whether it’s a timeless classic or the buzzy bestseller they can’t put down? Welcome to Page-Turners, where stars reveal the books that keep them hooked, inspired and up all night. Warning: your TBR pile is about to get a lot longer.
Like many voracious readers, Judd Apatow may have a book buying problem.
“I love buying books. I like reading them less than buying them, so I have thousands waiting to be read,” he tells Page Six, adding, “Don’t worry, I plan to get to all of them!”
However, getting to all of them may be an issue for the filmmaker, who admittedly falls asleep after reading in bed after five minutes.
“Sometimes, if I just think about reading, I fall asleep,” Apatow jokes, while also copping to a love of self-help books.
“One might say I hoard self-help books,” the director — whose new book “Comedy Nerd” hit shelves Tuesday — says. “I always think I will stumble upon one which will allow me to lose all my anxieties and emotional baggage.
“Usually, I just get more anxious about not being able to remember all of the advice which was supposed to heal me, which leads to more anxiety and public meltdowns!”
See below for Apatow’s six must-read book recommendations.
“The best book ever written about comedy and the experience of being a stand-up.”
“The self-help book that I should read every day to maintain my sanity, but usually I read a little of it every seventeen days.”
“This brand new memoir about Cameron Crowe’s years as a ridiculously young music journalist is heaven-sent. It is about everything I find fascinating: family, journalism, coming of age and rock.”
“This novel touches my heart and is one that all humans must read.”
“The best book for aspiring filmmakers.”
“This is my memoir in scrapbook form. It’s basically photos, essays, memorabilia and stories from my career and obsession with comedy. I’m only recommending it because all proceeds go to Fire Aid to benefit victims of the fires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena, and 826 centers that provide free tutoring and literacy programs to kids.”
