How to Lose a Guy …. for a Year.

During Wednesday’s episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Kate Hudson explained she “took a full year off” from romantically pursuing men after her therapist encouraged her to focus on herself.

The actress explained she was in her 30s when she decided she “didn’t want to keep repeating patterns anymore” and the only solution her therapist saw at the time was to simply not date for a whole year.

“I was like, ‘What?’ I couldn’t flirt –– none of it. But it was great,” she told host Alex Cooper.

The 45-year-old further recalled, “I could talk to them, but I couldn’t give them my number. So they’d be like, ‘Can I have your number?’ I’d be like, ‘You know, no, I’m not there right now.’”

The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star admitted that the first few months were “uncomfortable” and “not fun” for her, because she lost her “mojo.” However, she detailed that it eventually became “strangely empowering.”

“Because we were going through a very specific type of therapy, it was really about figuring out certain things that were happening to me, and then I had this one sort of breakthrough that was very emotional that I don’t think I would’ve been able to access if I had any distractions, so it allowed me to see things much more clearly,” she shared.

Hudson said that “within six months,” she “didn’t care about [her] phone” and had “no desire […] to be doing anything that had anything to do with potential flirtation.”

“A year later, [my therapist] was like, ‘OK, I think you can flirt again.’ I was like, ‘What? I can flirt?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’ I was like, ‘What does that mean? How do I flirt? I forgot,’” she said.

After the year-long break, Hudson realized she “didn’t have the same attachment” to male attention and that the same “wild” men “didn’t have the same pull” to her.

The “Talk About Love” singer called the entire ordeal “really amazing” and said that she was “so happy” to be single for a little over three years before she met her current fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, 37.

“If I didn’t do that, I would never have ended up with Danny, because Danny, he’s just such a good man, and I’m not so sure I was attracted to the good man,” she said while laughing.

The couple began dating in 2016 and got engaged in September 2021. They share a 5-year-old daughter, Rani.

The “Talk About Love” songstress also defended getting married to Robinson at 21 years old and told Cooper that she “didn’t question it for a second.”

“We were so connected. And Chris taught me so much about love, connection. It was just a wonderfully passionate relationship,” she shared.

Hudson also has a 20-year-old son, Ryder, with ex-husband Chris Robinson and a 12-year-old son Bingham, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy.
