Kate Middleton unexpectedly pulls out of Royal Ascot appearance following cancer remission

Kate Middleton will not be attending Wednesday’s Royal Ascot as she continues to “find the right balance” of returning to her royal duties following her cancer treatment.

In a published carriage list, Ascot officials originally confirmed at noon local time that the Princess of Wales was going to appear in the second carriage of the royal procession with her husband, Prince William, per the Daily Mail.

However, less than half an hour later, Kensington Palace confirmed Middleton, 43, would not be attending and Ascot published a revised list that did not include her name.

The outlet reported that the mom of three was “disappointed” not to be in attendance, “but she has to find the right balance as she fully returns to public facing engagements.”

While Kate did not attend the event, her mother, Carole Middleton, was present for the horse races alongside her son James Middleton’s wife, Alizee Thevenet.

In March 2024, Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and said she underwent major abdominal surgery while keeping the nature of her cancer under wraps.

Six months later, she announced she had completed her cancer treatment after receiving chemotherapy for nine months.

In January, Kate revealed that she was in remission four months after completing her cancer treatment.

The royal said she had taken on the role of Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden now that she’s in remission and had returned to her royal duties.

However, Kate said she would “remain focused on recovery” as she adjusts “to a new normal.”

Over the past week, the princess has attended several public events, including Trooping the Coulour and the Order of the Garter service.
