Khloé Kardashian explains why Lamar Odom divorce ‘was a lot harder’ than Tristan Thompson betrayal
Lesson learned.
Khloé Kardashian revealed that her divorce from Lamar Odom “was a lot harder” than her split from Tristan Thompson.
“With my first husband, I was younger and I think that was a lot harder for me,” she told Jay Shetty on her “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast Wednesday, referring to the former Los Angeles Lakers star.
“But what’s interesting was with each relationship where something bad has happened, I didn’t take it and was like, ‘Whoa is me. I’m this victim,’” the “Kardashians” star shared.
“I took it more like, ‘Okay, that’s another layer of armor that I’m putting on myself that I can get through anything else that happens in my life, but it’s also not going to harden me for my next relationship.’”
Kardashian, 40, said though she is “really big” on not taking baggage from a previous relationship into another one, she still likes to “carry it a little just so I’m reminded I think of like, the red flags that I’m supposed to see now.”
“I’s not going to make me project that onto my next partner,” she said.
“But also for my kids, like, I never want to be that person that my kids are like, ‘Oh, I’m going to get married.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, good luck.’ I really hate when people take their relationships and they project it,” the Good American co-founder added, referencing the two kids she shares with Thompson: True, 6, and Tatum, 2.
Despite the negative dating experiences Kardashian has had, she said she still believes in happily ever after.
“I am one of those hopeless romantics and I love the fairy tale and the fantasy — regardless of what’s ever happened to me — I’m always going to be that girl and I think we should be,” she told Shetty, 37.
Kardarshian and Odom, 45, were married from 2009 to 2016.
During their relationship, the former NBA player struggled with substance abuse and infidelity, which ultimately led to their demise.
The reality TV star initially filed for divorce in 2013, but decided to stay with Odom and help him recover in 2015 when he overdosed at a brothel in Nevada.
Kardashian filed for divorce a second time in May 2016 and it was finalized in December that same year.
On Season 6 of “The Kardashians,” which will premiere on Hulu on Feb. 6, Odom and his ex-wife will reunite.
The mom of two also had relationship drama with Thompson, 33, whom she dated on and off from 2016 to 2021.
During their relationship, the Cleveland Cavaliers star cheated multiple times and even welcomed a son named Theo with another woman.
Kardashian and Thompson, who is also dad to son Prince, 8, whom he shares with ex Jordan Craig, are now great co-parents to their two kids.
