Kiefer Sutherland cancels tour due to low ticket sales
Kiefer Sutherland has canceled his remaining tour dates after ticket sales failed to meet expectations.
“With great disappointment I am going to have to cancel the US leg of my tour due to very low ticket sales,” the “Lost Boys” actor wrote via Instagram on Friday.
“I don’t think it’s fair to the people who have bought tickets, or the venues, to play to have empty houses,” he continued. “I look forward to touring the United States again at a more suitable time.”
He concluded the message, “I hope you understand” and added that refunds would be available at the point of purchase.
In the caption, Sutherland, 59, directed fans to his website “for all upcoming gigs.”
Though some fans were seemingly disappointed by the announcement, others were understanding in the comments thread.
“I really appreciate your honesty and the fact that you don’t use illness as an excuse. That makes you even more likeable.😍” one person wrote, while another chimed in, “100% a money issue and definitely not lack of popularity. People are struggling to buy basic things to live right now.”
A third person quipped, “And this is why the European Tours are always the best 🔥” while a fourth suggested, “Just play smaller venues for your true fans. Would love to see you play!”
It’s worth noting that the movie star and musical artist was forced to cancel several European dates during a tour in 2019, after he fell and “seriously injured a rib, making it difficult to breathe and impossible to sing.”
Sutherland — who is scheduled to appear in the UK and Ireland in the coming weeks, per his website — recently announced his fourth album, “Grey,” to be released May 29.
“The songs were written and recorded over a two-year period from 2024 to 2026,” he wrote via his official site.
“In many ways these songs mark a growth for me personally, as I wrote less about observations and more about personal feelings that I have been navigating in my own life.”
The “24” alum — who was arrested in Los Angeles following an alleged altercation with a rideshare driver in January — apparently isn’t the first artist to cancel tour dates this year over poor ticket sales.
Page Six Hollywood reported earlier this month that Post Malone backed out of “The BIG ASS Stadium Tour Part 2” show at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, on May 13 due to “blue dot fever,” which a source said refers to the blue dots showing available seats on Ticketmaster seating charts. “
The singer, however, said he was ditching the first few weeks of the show with Jelly Roll because he “promised y’all beautiful people new music, and I don’t have the time to finish it before tour starts. We ain’t ready for tour just yet, so I’m making the decision to push the tour back about 3 weeks to get this music done.”
The Pussycat Dolls also recently canceled their North American shows for the same reason, per Page Six Hollywood.
“When we announced the PCD Forever Tour, we hoped to bring the show to fans across the world,” the group wrote in a statement shared to social media. “After taking an honest look at the North American run, we’ve made the heartbreaking decision to cancel all but one of the North American dates.”
