Love Island’s Sammy Root has shared his major career change one year after winning show.

The star has decided to go down a different career path away from reality TV. Before going on the ITV dating show, Sammy worked as a project manager. However, he’s not going back to this and has revealed he is starting an event planning business. He’s teamed up with one of his close friends to start their business which will consist of house and RnB events.

Sammy has said that their first event is set to be in Essex but they don’t have an exact date yet. He’s even said that he hopes the event becomes so popular that it ends up in Ibiza.

Speaking to The Sun, Sammy said: “I’ve teamed up with one of my friends and I’m starting an event, a house and RnB event. We should have our first event in Essex somewhere at the end of June, we haven’t released a date yet but I’m excited for that.

“I’m not going to be DJ’ing but I want to run the event, get the DJ’s, get this and that and throw a big party basically. Hopefully one day up in Ibiza. I love music, I love events, since I’ve been a kid I’ve been going to events and stuff so to actually be the one running it, to me, that’s exciting.

“I’d love to be able to sort of make an event successful and say that’s mine. The boy I’ve teamed up with he’s got another [event] one, he’s got his first event in Ibiza. Hopefully that could be me next year.”

Sammy rose to fame when he won Love Island with his then-girlfriend Jess Harding. However, the pair soon parted ways just two months after leaving the show. It was said at the time that Jess reportedly realised that they were better off as friends.

Jess said: “We shared a once in a lifetime experience together, so of course I’m sad.” She added in a Q&A at the time that she didn’t want to “go into detail” about their separation, but said that they are “just very different”.

Whilst Sammy said in his statement: “We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess.” He also commented: “Unfortunately things don’t always work out the way you’d hoped.”

Neither of them appeared on the new spin off show Love Island All Stars but Sammy said he might go on if there is another series. He said: “Seeing as Love Island was the best experience of my life, I’d be silly to turn it down. Never say never, I’ll definitely consider it.”
