Before Madison Beer was discovered at age 13, she too was a Belieber.
During an appearance on Podcrushed on Thursday, Jan. 22, the “Good in Goodbye” singer, 26, revealed she was a big Justin Bieber fan when she was a young girl.
The topic was brought up with host Penn Badgley asked the singer-songwriter about her latest studio album Locket, which is inspired by her younger self.
“Who might have been, at 12 years old, in a locket for you?” he asked.
“Transparently, Justin Bieber,” Beer confessed. “If you scroll all the way down to my Instagram, one of my first posts was literally a cardboard cut out of him in my room.”
“He was definitely my obsession,” she said.
In 2012, Bieber shared a video of Beer singing Etta James’ “At Last” online — and that propelled her career. Reflecting on the day he shared her video, Beer said she was “freaking out.”
“Then I just kept on going with my normal life and it was just this big deal for a second and then I ended up meeting him and I ended up signing with him and it was a whirlwind,” she said.
“For a girl who would have had him in her locket and a cardboard cutout in her room was nuts,” she concluded.
In April of last year, Beer opened up about her bond with Bieber and wife Hailey in a digital cover story for Cosmopolitan.
“I love [Justin] and Hailey [Bieber] very much,” Beer said at the time. “I was with them recently and we were like, ‘How special that we’ve known each other for so long.'”
She continued, “I’ve known Hailey since I was 10, and I’ve known Justin since I was 12. We’re still in each other’s lives and now they’re married with a baby.”
In the interview, she also opened up about being referred to as “the female Justin Bieber.”
“The reason it was a thing was because Scooter [Braun] had signed me and obviously Scooter had signed Justin,” she said. “Justin had posted a cover and I had posted a cover, so it felt synchronized.”
She continued, “But Justin was also only a teenager when I got signed—he hadn’t even experienced his adult life yet. He’s been through so much, too.
Beer released her latest studio album, Locket, on Jan. 16.
