Madonna’s Son David, 18, Jokes He’s ‘Scavenging’ for Food in NYC After Moving Out on His Own: ‘Fun to Be Young’

Madonna’s kids are growing up!
In a recent Instagram Live, the star’s 18-year-old son David Banda gave some insight into his life after his recent high school graduation.
Asked by a fan how he “likes living on your own,” David responded that he loves it before clarifying that he is currently sharing a home with his girlfriend.
“It’s lovely to experience it being 9 o’clock at night, me being hungry and realizing that I don’t have enough money to get food, but we don’t have enough food in the house and scavenging,” he quipped. “It’s fun.”
A source tells PEOPLE Madonna and David remain “very close” and that the superstar has “always been supportive of all of her kids.”
David and his sister Mercy James, also 18, both hit a major milestone earlier this year: In a reflective Mother’s Day post, Madonna included a photo of the siblings dressed in blue gowns as they celebrated their high school graduation.
“They grow up too fast and spin out in different directions And yes I have a hard time letting go,” the star, 65, wrote in the post’s caption. “David and Mercy graduated high school … Finally the realization that they were raising me and not the other way around.”
Last September the pop icon threw a lavish party for her son’s 18th birthday. “It is impossible to believe that almost 18 years have gone by since We met you in Mchinji at Home of Hope Oprhanage!” she captioned an Instagram Reel documenting the bash. “You name means ‘Speak the truth!’ I couldn’t think of a better name for an artist!”
And in April Madonna — who’s also mom to Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 23, and twins Stella and Estere, 11 — paid tribute to her kids, several of whom performed with her during her recent critically acclaimed Celebration Tour.
“I think what my children learned the most this year of rehearsing and performing is that if you want to follow your dreams, you have to work hard for them,” she captioned a carousel of photos that included a shot David, Estere and Stella sharing a group hug with her backstage. “And if all of them choose something different later in life, they will never forget this year of blood, sweat, and tears. Nor will I.”
