Maverick’ actor James Handy’s murderer called 911 with chilling confession
Actor James Handy’s suspected murderer called 911 with a chilling confession after the 81-year-old’s fatal stabbing Wednesday.
The individual, according to audio obtained by People, told dispatch, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
The “Top Gun: Maverick” star was subsequently found unconscious in the front yard of his Tarzana, California, home.
He was suffering from a stab wound in the chest.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics then transported Handy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Handy’s girlfriend’s son, Michael Gledhill, has been arrested and charged with one count of murder.
The 44-year-old is reportedly being held at Van Nuys Jail, with his bail set at $2 million.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Gledhill “flagged down nearby responding officers, telling them he was the one they were looking for.”
The statement added that “the suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend.”
Detectives, notably, “believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public.”
Handy kept his private life out of the spotlight and little is known about his family.
The “Jumanji” star’s last public appearance was in September 2017 at the Whitefire Theatre.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” which came out in 2022, was Handy’s final role.
In the film, he played a bartender named Jimmy serving Tom Cruise’s character, Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
Handy started acting in 1997. In addition to film roles in “Taps,” “Arachnophobia” and “Logan,” he has been in a slew of TV shows over the years, from “Melrose Place” to “The Young and the Restless.”
