Meghan Markle suffers yet another trademark slipup after failing to sign crucial document for As Ever brand
You’d think an expert calligrapher would be better at signing her name.
Meghan Markle reportedly failed to sign the trademark application documents for her lifestyle company, As Ever, after being forced to rebrand the project over several trademark setbacks.
The Duchess of Sussex failed to scribble her signature on the important form — which is necessary to make the documents “properly verified” — when she submitted them to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
The Trademark Office sent the documents back and alerted Markle to clarify what she meant by “various items,” like “spoons, serving jams and fruit preserves,” according to documents obtained by The Post.
Markle, 43, was also asked to list all goods and services “by their international class number.”
Strangely, the former “Suits” actress made the same signature snafu when she tried to trademark her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, as well as her canceled Spotify podcast, “Archetypes.”
Markle revealed earlier this year that she had to rebrand her lifestyle company — originally named American Riviera Orchard — to As Ever after hitting several trademark setbacks.
“There are tons of twists and turns — even with the name,” she told People earlier this month, adding, “I was figuring it out in real time.”
She added, “I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also to be forgiving with myself through that. It’s a learning curve.”
Since announcing the switch-up, Markle has already been hit with an onslaught of complications.
The Trademark Office rejected Markle’s bid to sell clothing like aprons and other garb under the newly-named company as there is already a Chinese clothing company called ASEVER.
“The marks are identical in sound and virtually identical in appearance and are thus confusingly similar for the purposes of determining likelihood of confusion,” the rejection document stated.
In February, a politician in Spain also spoke out, claiming the As Ever logo looked too similar to the coat of arms of Porreres, a small Mallorcan village.
The “With Love, Meghan” host revealed earlier this month that her As Ever company, in partnership with Netflix, will be selling her signature raspberry jam as well as limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb.
Additionally, the ex-actress will be hawking crepe mix, a variety of herbal teas like lemon, ginger, peppermint and hibiscus and shortbread butter cookies with flower sprinkles.
The flower sprinkles, which made several cameos in her ambient cooking show, can also be purchased on their own “for beautifying meals and sweet treats.”
